Hughes usually tells it like it is (unlike say Cimini), and Nimbley runs a Jets fan site. I'm pretty sure if anyone had an agenda here, it's Nimbley.

The hatred of beat writers has always been comical to me. That is one aspect of fandom I will never get. LOL
My fellow Knicks fans are the same way. I don’t get it. All I can do is laugh. I personally am appreciative of the information. I expect some kind of personal spin as these aren’t robots.
We should be excited to see a guy like Echols stepping up in a weak position group. That makes me hopeful. Other takeaways from viewing our practice....tweets. I sometimes forget we have a Lamar Jackson and end up thinking, "whats the Ravens QB doing here?" After being MIA for a while there was a Morgan sighting. Is the Berrios still on the team? Herndon caught a TD! I still want him gone. Either the practice was pass heavy or our D stuffed the run bigtime. I cant wait to finally see our guys play the Giants. Its not the same reading tweets and watching shaky, out of position, fan video. Nothing matches the eye test, especially with Wilson. I'm so ready to actually see what we got so far.
I don't think they're good at their jobs as they try to drum up clicks with sensationalist click-bait rather than objectively reporting. I will however admit that I think the new NYDailyNews reporter DJ Bien-Aime is solid. I think the independent Jets bloggers and Jets Twitter are way better than our beat.
I think there is a clear pecking order in terms of substance and information from different levels of media. Off the top of my head I would rank them in this order. 1. Independent Jets media - They are by far the best source of information and are revolutionizing the information we get. 2. Most beat writers - Most are pretty solid. Cimini is low on the pecking order here because he displays a lot of bias but he is better than some click bait beat writers like Darryl Slater. Conner Hughes looks like the kind of guy I would hate in real life but he does an amazing job of sending out informative tweets. 3. National football Independent anyalsts 4. Independent National websites 5. Big name brand websites like ESPN CBS sportsline. It is all click bait with no substance or analysis. 6. ESPN absolutely awful. Made to entertain the masses not inform 7. Celebrity TV show sports idiots Cowherd Skip Bayless etc They will say anything to get people to listen. The dumber their content the more likely it is to attract viewers.
I'll take a stab, from my POV, in answering this question. This is the first time in MANY years that I've seen the team focused on creating a good offense. Really, when was the last time that happened? Maybe under Walt Michaels? Parcells was still all about the "D", and "O" was a necessary evil. The "Defense wins championships" virus infected this team badly for decades, right up until this year in fact. So I am THRILLED to see Douglas focus on the offense last year and this year! And even though that's the reason I wanted an offense-oriented HC hired, I soon came to see that Saleh is even better: he's the "CEO" type of head coach this team has really needed, also for decades - the type who doesn't get stuck focusing on his old specialty, and instead makes sure all the parts work well together. I believe that was what Douglas was looking for in a HC and as a result I think they'll be mutually compatible. All of this "newness" comes with a price: there's going to be some speed bumps at first, especially with the offense. BUT...this offense has more talent than any we've had in decades IMO, and once the young guys get some snaps under their belts they'll be fine. Maybe an analogy will explain this better. Years ago my prospective father-in-law tried to teach me how to play golf. I had been to driving ranges, but never on a course. He watched me hit a bucket of balls, many of which featured a persistent slice that I tries to overcome by increasingly turning my wrists under the shaft. He finally stopped me and re-arranged my grip, telling me that I would never cure my slice doing it my way. The new grip felt AWFUL! I felt like my wrists were made from noodles and had no power, but he insisted I hit a bucket of balls like that while he watched (so I wouldn't cheat!). By the end of that bucket the grip didn't feel so bad, even though I still didn't seem to hit the ball as far as I used to - however, I DID stay in the fairway which actually gave me more useful distance. By the end of my first round on the course, the new grip felt "natural", and over time my actual distance increased. I eventually became able to intentionally hook and slice also. To the Jets point: much of this stuff is new to them, but I believe they're being coached the proper way to play, and over time - hopefully quickly - they're going to be much better than they look now. So that's my answer to your question Dean. You'll likely still call me too optimistic, but I'll remind you that I've watched this team for almost 60 years, and what I see in this group is what I saw in the Ewbank-Namath Era. Maybe I'll once again be bitterly disappointed, but frankly at this point I don't have many years left to be hopeful, so if they "Lucy" me again, I'll just be done.
I don't hate the beat writers, but they need to be called out on their bullshit when it's tweeted/published. Perfect example is this "Mims on the bubble" BS. Dick Cimini fires off a baseless tweet that Mims might be on the bubble because he's running with the 2s and 3s. Nevermind the fact that the dude is working his way back from a serious bout of food poisoning and also is in his first real training camp surrounded by vets and talent at his position. It then gets picked up by larger media outlets and then becomes talking points on national sports shows. It's really a disgrace to actual journalism. It's bullshit and needs to be called out as such.
The Seaver trade destroyed the Mets for 5 years. That was all on Dick Young for leading the charge and M Donald Grant for being a clueless no-nothing.
I think that is the problem when a beat writer from a legitimate media outlet writes a clickbait story it gets picked up by national media. If it is a negative story about the Jets then a small click bait story can get huge exposure as there is nothing that brings in more national viewers than an anti-NY story.
