Before I’m told again that Darnolds camp was the same:

Sam Darnold took 21 snaps, the most reps, but they were all with the backups. Josh McCown took 12 snaps, all with the starters. And Teddy Bridgewater took nine snaps with the backups.

Expect the Jets to continue giving Darnold the majority of the snaps through training camp -- he has the most to learn and prove. It's also likely Bridgewater's reps will go up as he continues to prove his health, and McCown's will go down. The Jets already know what they have in McCown and the soon-to-be 39-year-old doesn't need the reps. It'll be on Bridgewater and Darnold to try and take the job from him.

    Story continues below video.

    Growing pains
Sam Darnold played poorly in his first OTA practice. He looked overwhelmed in the pocket at times. He had trouble communicating with his receivers. He completed only 2-of-10 passes and took two sacks. (No one actually touched him, the pressure just got to him before he threw the ball.) Darnold tossed a couple of interceptions in 7-on-7 drills. And there was another botched snap.

It was probably a frustrating day for the Jets' quarterback of the future. We don't know. The Jets didn't make him available to talk. But frustration is OK at this stage. A rookie is supposed to look a little lost on his first day of real professional practice.

If Darnold is struggling in August, it might be time to worry a little. But there's nothing wrong with him looking a little overwhelmed on Day 1. https://www.northjersey.com/story/sports/nfl/jets/2018/05/23/5-takeaways-jets-begin-otas-including-sam-darnhttps://www.northjersey.com/story/s...uding-sam-darnold-and-qb-situation/636510002/old-and-qb-situation/636510002/

Thanks for providing this. Memory is funny thing, often heavily influenced by desire to rewrite it. In short, there is NO comparison between Darnold and Wilson.

it was after the 98 season that I discovered the NYTimes Jets discussion thread ( I was 31)

which eventually became Jetschat.com when the moderator Judy Battitsa banned forum favorite and we all migrated away...
@jetophile were you in the times thread?

I was on the Jets AOL message board back when O'Donnell was the QB and one of the posters was Rich Cimini. I actually messaged him and he answered me. I asked him if he was a Jets fan and he basically told me that reporting on the Jets was a job and he wasn't a fan. I'll never forget that.

    That's dope.

Can you imagine if I ever become a famous NYJ beat writer?

Jets fans from all around the old forums of JI and TGG all the way to JN etc ppl can all one day say... "Hey... I knew that DWC guy. I debated him. He debated me back. He even threw stats in my face. I'll never forget that what a weird one he was"

You think incorrectly with regards to the bold. As losmeister said, the NY Times had a Jets fan forum. I don't remember when it started, but it was there in '98, and I think maybe a few years before that. The Times Forum was my first Jets fan forum, and I've been posting on Jets' fan sites since then. Losmeister and I posted on that Times Forum.

I'm not sure it was a forum. They used to let you post comments under articles. I remember some of George Vescey's columns drawing pages and pages of comments.

Those were the days those throwback football fan days on newly discovered football message boards. The first type of social media before MySpace and Facebook lol where Jets fans wrote articles full of paragraphs.

Twitter has ruined and tainted fans posting mentality. Now it's all about max characters consisting of one line fillers and emojis :eek:o_O:rolleyes::mad: while the days of "POTW" nominations are a forgotten thing of the past.

I appreciate throwback fans such as yourself NC and many of others who still post around these necks of the woods and everytime we get a like or two on our articles of insight it makes messages boards still worth while.

I just googled the NY Times Jets Forum hoping to find some record of what year it started and when it ended, but no luck. The only link I found was a visit Judy paid to the Jets Forum in '98. I saw names I hadn't seen or thought of in a long time davidahl, mojohand, rayray, didn't see AJ, JET (John Tobin), SG1 or phil1c, or either of our names asking questions, however. I remember her Q&A sessions with the forum.

That's the beautiful thing about NCAA football. These kids aren't millionaires. They're playing for not only themselves but their families and loved one's too. There is no such thing as a trap game because these kids are already trapped in the middle and in between their current reality (broke) and their lifelong childhood dreams (NFL).

So many 1st round QBs from powerhouse legendary football programs were carried into the NFL by their 4-5 star recruit teammates in comparison to QBs @ slept on and underrated schools who are forced to carry their programs on their backs because if not their teammates can never succeed and their programs can never make it onto ESPN under the bright lights.

Yeah, I refuse to buy into the BYU thing.

Taysom Hill from BYU went undrafted (right before Zach) and some guy by the name of

    Christian Stewart

Quarterbacked in 2014 but unfortunately, couldn't never make the big leagues.

    My favorite is Kurt Warner.

    Northern Iowa?

AJ sends me jokes or videos about every week, but never answers any questions about the Jets or how he's doing. I'm on a Facebook Jets Page with John, but it isn't very active.

Memory is a funny thing. My memory of Sanchez was his coach Peter Carrol saying he wasn’t ready for the NFL.

My memory of Sanchez wasn't the butt fumble my strongest memory of him was during his rookie season. Rex Ryan had to have NY Yankees baseball staff teach the kid how to slide feet first and also Rex having to utilize Green Light Red Light signals during practices; he was all over the place.

    As widely reported:
When the Jets called Zach Wilson to officially select him on Thursday night, head coach Robert Saleh told the young QB, “This organization is going to lift you, not the other way around.”
