The same type attitude permeates this board. It must be a Jets fans thing. Like you I don’t get it either.
It's what makes Jets fans Jets fans. Or, a significant amount. Over the years when I used to have six seats, the group I'd bring along was a mix. I'd have a couple like me - pretty die hard Jets and football fans. Then there'd be two who rooted for the Jets but were better at joking about them and enjoyed the tailgate and halftime ramp more than the game. They dozed off during the game. And, there'd be one or two just thrilled to see an NFL game - and party. So, I understand the mix. The anger and pessimism is a result of the franchise's failures. It's who we are. The move to Jersey definitely added to it. The "Ed topic" is just one where it emerges. I think those fans who attended the games feel better about Ed than those who only got the TV celebrity version.
I actually agree with you on this. Grown men wearing excessive amounts of nonsense reminds me of David Puddy in Seinfeld. Raiders fans are giant toolbags so it fits them perfectly. Back in the day the original leader of the Jets chant wore the 2 beer construction helmet. That's fine, plus he was wasted, it was freezing cold and everyone could see him when he was leading the chant. Fireman putz probably stole the helmet thing from those guys, except without the beer cans.
Fans are soft today, like the game. The NFL has gone woke. It is nauseating, especially having an entire month of players wearing pink. WTF? Do I really want to be reminded of cancer while I'm trying to relax and enjoy a football game on Sunday?? The NFL has plenty of money, let them donate & let the fans have a break from reality, at least for one day.
It's the NFL pretending to give a shit, to appeal to the last remaining demographic they can reach out to.... that's it
Those guys sat near my uncles section when they moved to the meadowlands...... would blow whistles and throw out candy before the chant. Being 10 years old at the time, I appreciated the flying jolly ranchers
I always assumed the dude was "special" so I never mocked him..... I mean seriously..... outside of a character in an Adam Sandler movie what normal adult would actually do that to themselves?!
Wearing pink doesn’t even make the top 10-20 of what’s soft about the new NFL IMO. There are a lot of on field rule changes that have made the game soft well before we get to pink apparel.
The NFL has been "going soft" ever since they stopped having players play both offense and defense and special teams.
Personally, I think it started before that CC....they started going soft when they stopped playing on gravel parking lots and moved the game to grassy fields. I still remember the 1920 game between the Decatur Staleys and the Rock Island Independents....ended in a zero-zero tie....guys were getting cut up like crazy on that gravel....everyone in attendance got their nickel (which was the price of a ticket back in those days) back, since the game ended in a scoreless tie. Old Man Halas was a beast that day, he was actually rubbing guys faces down into the gravel whenever he tackled them! He'd try to get it into their eyes, so as to affect their vision for the rest of the game, which was a common tactic back in those days!
Yes! The whistles! I remember that now! I think they sat on the other side of Giants Stadium from where our seats were, so that would put them around Section 335, the seats I sat in for the Dolphins game in 86. Those weren't our normal seats, but the original chant leaders were gone by then. They did not last long at the Meadowlands, most likely because I assume they lived on Long Island and hated the drive.
Oh I agree with you there too. It's just that I hate being reminded of cancer when I'm watching a football game. Who wants to be reminded about a loved one or someone who is going through it at the time about a deadly disease??? You're trying to forget about life for a while as Billy Joel once said.
