He has half the board ignored already. Everyone knows the key to enhanced critical thinking ability is to surround yourself solely with people who agree with you.
This is not new, JD admitted there were offers on the table but he wasn’t going to trade Sam without seeing what the prospects looked like in person. JD also said another reason Sam was traded is because Jets had a high draft pick, if Jets were lower down on draft board Sam would be Jets QB and Jets would simply stick to their draft board. I’m glad JD is sticking to his blueprint and making well thought out decisions for the team.
His point was they would have waited for JD and Sam rather than spunk all of those 1st away for Mac Jones if they 'really' wanted Sam.
TBH I am not sure turning down a #12 for Darnold is a well thought out position. #2 #12 #23 #34 What damage could we have done with those? Wilson/Fields/Lance Horn, Pitts, Waddle, Smith Surtain OT, OG, CB, RB, WR, Edge Then with the 34th double down on any of the above I just can't believe it is true, or it certainly wasn't just the straight-up #12 for Sam
I agree with you, do you think JD would have turned down a #12 for Darnold? Does anyone really believe that would have ever happened? There is no way it was a straight swap for pick and player. This stuff is getting silly, glad JD is keeping cards close to the vest. If he did turn down a 12 for Sam, I would have some serious doubts about him but I would be scared as a Niners fan to think that Lynch would even think about making that offer.
Good god no, JD would have snapped their hand off for the reasons I just outlined in the previous post lol
Look, I get that not everyone agrees with the QB choice and I'm the first one to admit that I am the last one that anyone should listen too when it comes to prospects. It's just the incessant passive agressive comments from a handful of individuals that I find amusing. That and the need to constantly demean of the other QB's that aren't their choice or even the notion of picking a QB at 2. I find it hilarious
Medicals didn't come out until a week or so later. There were no doctors at the prodays, and that's the piece JD was waiting for the most. It seems.
Well, the 12th overall is worth more than the 2 1sts we got for Adams, so there's that if you wanna split hairs!
JD has said they received opinions on Zach's shoulder that made them confident about it before the official medicals.
We don't know if JD turned down the offer. We know JD wanted to wait a bit longer to evaluate the draft b4 shipping sam out. When JD told 9ers to hold on a bit, they may have called Miami as a back up plan. Then Miami may have told 9ers they're gonna trade #3 to another team unless 9ers pulled the trigger right then, knowing the 9ers were waiting on Sam and Miami was their back up plan. We just don't know what was going on behind the scenes.
Even if they get Fields? We have to use common sense here. No one was offering JD #12 pick for Sam. Multiple reports disputed this now. This is rumor season. JD pulled the rabbit out of his ass to get a second, plus two more. Btw, I hear from reliable League sources that Denver offered #9 for Sam, but then withdrew the offer when they found out Fields might slide to them, since 49ers are taking Jones, and Fields will be #5 QB falling to them. You can make a lot of shit up like this.
I didn't say I assumed any of the rumors were true, merely that the 49ers credibility of being a smart organization are slightly hurt considering they made the same deal that we did. The same deal that has been chastised on this board as being moronic. We'll never really know whether it's true or false. But if it's true, it's a terrible move to not take that deal the second the offer was made by Douglas. He's made some good trades. But he's far from bulletproof in my eyes because he's made some questionable ones including neglecting the offensive line (minus McGovern) in both free agency periods, releasing Brian Winters when the guard group sucked as it was, the Anderson mistake, signing Gore, etc.
You didn't answer my question. Are 49ers still not smart for trading up to #3 if the pick is Fields? Furthermore, if Fields becomes what you think he will become? For me, where Mac fucked up is not the trade, but the fact his evaluation that top FQBs in the draft were Baker and Sam was wrong. As far as this report, to me it has as much credibility as Justin Fields work ethics one. Aside from basic common sense that it is way too much for Sam, supported by actual trade, which is much lower, even the premise does not completely align. JD wanted to see him throw to confirm his shoulder is fine? I mean does that even make sense? Perhaps you want to see medical assessment for that by doctors, but not JD. All he needed is to see him throw, and shoulder is cleared. Just a moronic report all around, which has already been disputed by multiple sources.
The niners are a fairly complete team trying to get over the last hurdle so they can afford to take that risk. But IMO what the niners did would be a stupid trade for most teams. Kind of stupid for us to not consider it, or the Phily trade. Its going to be very interesting in a year to see who went where over these trades, and see what we missed out on for Kid Red Flag.
