How in the world were any of those teams better? Houston is 7-13 over the past two seasons and Boise State beat Hawaii and Wyoming by one score. Not to mention both of these teams were at a bigger disadvantage in starting both of their seasons in October without a traditional off-season. BYU ran for 8.5 yards per carry against Boise State while Houston yielded the 80th points allowed in NCAAF last year out of 128. Houston was also a Covid mess for most of the year and got their face kicked in by Hawaii in that bowl game with the much easier travel (Hawaii normally sucks on the mainland). I guess you can make the argument for Coastal Carolina based on their season results but they were picked to finish last in the conference and has FCS talent on their roster as they just became a D1 school four years ago. A supreme talent as Wilson is heralded to be should've blown the doors off a Sun Belt team like that and he didn't.
The funny thing is that I like Simms. I just mock the idol worship. McShay is probably the only draft analysis I have absolutely no respect for. I even respect Mel.
How many QB's have had one great season in college? How many of them went in the top 10 of the NFL draft? I'll bet you the numbers are very large on the first question and very small on the second and that most of the teams making the pick cried about it a lot afterwards. If you take Zach Wilson in the top 10 in this draft you better have a great plan or a miracle worker because the odds he will get it done without one or the other are vanishingly small.
