I like how Josh Allen is now the poster boy for talent how easily people have forgotten pure talent like Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell. Give me the best all around player. I want a player that can make all the throws, runs and read a defense as well being able to get yards on the run. I don't care about the QB 40 time.
On one end I get it. The life expectancy of NFL coaches and FO personnel is short so why bet on talent over skill? The NFL is conservative by nature. The perceived safer choice will be selected 9 out of 10 times.
I agree Kurt, but if thats the case then why isn't Wilson your guy? Compared to Fields, Wilson IS the talent (less skill) guy. Fields is the less raw talent, more refined player. Lance is another story, I think he's probably the one with the most tools in his chest outta the 3
There's a recent quote from an NFL GM along the lines of "Josh Allen is going to get a lot of GM's fired over the next several years by convincing them that raw tools are paramount." I think this applies to a fair share of our resident QB "gurus" too. Me thinks people who were right about Allen are riding a wave of overconfidence as a result of it.
I said Bucky did a good job articulating my position. On your end you somehow read that as “LiStEn To BuCkY nOt SiMmS”. I get it though; you must still be hurt over some shit that was said about your Lord and Savior Simms. It’s fucking with your reading comprehension.
Talent over skills (which can be taught) assuming all the intangibles are equal (i.e., character, aptitude, work ethic...etc.). Below is what I said about Mahomes & Allen pre-draft. As you can see I ALWAYS bank on talent w/ the caveat that they are not crazy or lazy like Russell and Leaf,
Conversely, me thinks people that were wrong about Allen and Mahomes are overcompensating with Wilson.
Except Darnold actually was the bottom 5 worst in TO worthy plays, while Zach leads the NCAA in fewest INT worthy passes. There is a significant difference. Your prayers might just come true.
With Zack at 2, does that take the pressure off drafting a top guard/center at 23? If ZW was a pocket passer JD would have no choice but to go oline at 23, but with zacks scrambling/off platform stuff/mahomes-ish, do we even need another lineman? Maybe go D there instead?
One thing I can say from what I've read from you is that you don't necessarily think Wilson is garbage or even bad. You just think Fields is a heck of a lot better and I can appreciate that. Others rip Wilson because they don't think the Jets should pick a QB at #2 and if Fields was the board consensus they would be ripping him apart. See FootballGod214
I'd really like to see Allen back up the past year with another great one before I annoint him. Don't get me wrong, I like Allen. But one year doesn't make a career.
This is a good class. While I do think Wilson has a higher bust potential than most realize, I am less hyperbolic because of JD. My faith is in him more so Zach or LaFleur. Still I’d prefer to leave the draft with the best talent if given the choice.
It doesn’t but it does kind of put a massive hole in the Hackenberg 2.0 narrative that was running rampant in this board pre-draft.
Yeah, that was a great video. It is fair to both guys and shows why both are so highly valued. He also expressed why I prefer Wilson to Fields. The skill over the talent for the Jets, in particular, would be a wise decision. I think we all agree Justin Fields is a better talent and overall athlete. It is easy to see. Wilson looks like he has the skill to be a great QB. The thing about Fields is if he can click upstairs, and read defenses, etc, then he will be unstoppable. We are talking an elite QB. I see the upside in both, and I see the potential bust side in both. So when I read the people who are all Wilson or all Fields, it just looks odd to me.
