United Way, Boy Genius? Dec 10, 2006 12:03 AM Filed under:Commercial JohnAbraham NFL NewYorkJets UnitedWay 24 views report abuse With the Jets looking at an easy road to the playoffs, I think it's about time to start discussing the slim possibility of a Super Bowl run. The Jets have far exceeded expectations (although that's not very hard to do when you aren't expected to win more than a half dozen games all year), and have a very easy schedule left before the postseason. My question for you all is one of memory. A few years ago (probably about 4 or 5), a commercial appeared on TV during a football game. It had that ever-familiar United Way theme to it (I love that guy's voice). The ad featured former Jet John Abraham at a children's center speaking with a young boy. Abraham was listing off questions that most of us lowly sports fans would never be able to answer. Finally, John asked the most important question of all: "When's the next time the Jets will win the Super Bowl?" After a slight hesitation, the boy responded with a year that has been ringing in my head ever since: 2006. For all those with a brain smaller than my bank account (very tough to have), this is the 2006 NFL season. http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/mfitz8530/ I will never forget that commercial. And I'm sure all of your remember it. JETS in 06 baby! Could that kid of been right after all?
Yes, but the Superbowl (and playoffs) are in 2007, and last year everyone was saying that last year was the year because the kid in the commercial said 2006, and that didn't work out too well. But who knows?
When I first saw the commercial I wasn't sure whether the kid meant the 2006 season, or the super bowl that takes place in the year 2006. After witnessing that season, we now know that he meant the 2006 season.
