I'm not sure where you are going with this one.... OK, Graham had one blocked. Was it his fault? Did a rusher slpit a gap, and it wasn't his fault? 42 yard punts? He averaged 43 last year with drop punts, and now he's using the torpedo, which has added 10 yards of distance.... I think I turned 2004 into a Graham hater!
Nah I don't hate Graham.. I wasn't being critical either. I was saying it he kicks it 42 on average, I'm happy. Anything more is bonus. I worry about too much more because he can outkick coverage, but it sounds like his hang time is off the charts.
I agree that it should be. I wonder how many backup QBs hold for kicks. It's something I rarely notice these days unless a guy screws up.
If it is normally relegated to the backup's duty, does anyone have a guess as to why Benny is holding still?
I read a press release on newyorkjets.com the other night, and Mangini said it was because the snapper, punter, and kicker spend the most time together.
From the article I read: On using back-up quarterbacks as the holder… A lot of times the back-up quarterback is the second holder. Usually the reason you use the punter is because the punter, the long snapper and the kicker spend more time together than anybody else. They can work on those things while other things are going on. There's continuity, usually a pretty strong bond between the kicker and the punter. They understand each other's quirks, nuances. That's the thought process things just to simulate if you had that situation.
It makes sense from that standpoint, but it takes away the element of running a surprise fake FG, or for having a QB recover and make a play on a busted snap. Even if the holder is the backup QB.
Well the commentary said that we shouldn't have had him holding but a backup qb because they take snaps or something. Thats just stupid because Benny has been doing it for a while its not like he's not used to it.
the whole take snaps thing... does that even matter? How many times in the game does the QB take a shotgun snap while kneeling? Compared to standard snaps... hello? I think it is just something for them to bitch about.
