Here is my dilemma. I am nowhere near a football expert. I don't watch other teams as much outside Jets. I don't watch college football at all. There are great football minds on this board that I rely on year in year out. @legler82 @Jonathan_Vilma @KurtTheJetsFan @MaximusD163 Above posters are football gurus. Cream of the crop. They all prefer Fields over Wilson. Draft is already ruined for me. Can I ban these guys or no? Dang!
Why would we take this option up? We won't even if we keep him, he will get offered a new deal if he light it up, of course, he could go to FA or we could franchise him I guess. But as of right now that 5th-year option may as well be tippexed (correction fluid) out of existence.
Well here's hoping that the one we pick at least gives us some good years, I think we are long overdue.
I would be the happiest man on the planet if we picked Wilson and I end up being wrong about my ranking Fields ahead of him. Lord knows I prayed I was wrong about Darnold vs Allen.
A lot is gonna depend on Fields' pro day. This isn't over yet for the Jets but it's gonna take one incredible performance from Fields to get JD off the Wilson train. Watching Zach's pro day on YouTube, the kid looks a bit light in the ass but the arm strength and accuracy just can't be denied. Let the kid grow up and mature and he'll put on probably 10-15lbs of muscle. He's gonna need an OLine though and a good system to master. With his release, running the modern WCO shouldn't be an issue for Zach. Been in on ZW from the beginning. Hopefully he'll be wearing the green and white of the NYJ's.
You are the QB guru. Maximus and Jonathan Vilma are football gurus. Kurt is overall NFL guru. But you are at the top when it comes to college QB's. Dude I know you from Mahomes days. And after the Josh Allen you became a God for me. Tell me this. Can Wilson be at least a Matt Ryan and take the Jets to Super Bowl? Can he at least not be a liability on a good team for play off football?
I think it's a done deal that we're taking Wilson. Let's connect a few dots: The 49ers never even had discussions with the Jets about moving to #2 despite an interest in moving up as high as possible. This tells me that the 9ers heard through Saleh/LaFleur that the pick isn't available to be traded for. This tells us the Jets do not intend on trading the pick. The Eagles wanted to move up to #3 but only if Wilson would be available. They later abandoned this hope, likely because JD told Roseman that Wilson wouldn't be available by #3. Roseman was JD's primary mentor before landing his first GM gig, it's totally reasonable to think JD would do him a solid and not let him trade a bunch of picks to move up for a guy that won't be there at #3.
I like Lawrence. And by no means am I saying Ryan Leaf. But I've long had this suspicious feeling that for whatever reasons Lawrence is going to be at least a slight disappointment in the NFL. I hope he proves me wrong and puts the Jags back on the map. Getting injured is definitely one path to disappointment.
Honestly, if you have the time, watch video of these guys, especially video from some of the "trusted" QB gurus - even if you don't agree with everything they say, they all do a good job of breaking stuff down so that you can see it (even so I still miss stuff!). And even though you're not a "guru", you can still get a good overview and develop your own instinct about these guys (and others ones too). I too value the opinions of guys you mention, and hesitate to go against them, but sometimes I do. The thing is that it then requires me to do some good homework and fact-checking (and I'm not perfect at this either). Anyway, I joined TGG a few years ago precisely for the reasons you mention: I wanted to learn more of the deeper knowledge of the game and the nuances, and I don't regret any of the "classroom time" I've spent here.
Yeah. Don't get me wrong, I greatly value the opinions of some posters here. I also greatly value the opinions of former QB's, QB coaches and professional scouts though.
