He didn't have a lot of time! Every single one of those snaps with the exception of the one sack he took, he threw the ball at 4 seconds or before. That is not a lot of time. Most of the thows were at 2-3 seconds.
Love him or hate him, looking forward to reading the TGG reviews of tomorrows Zach pro day. Special on NFL network at 1 PM ET if interested.
Posted on another thread, where I read that JD loves him, but the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping Sam.
If so, Joe Douglas has complete roster control. Welcome to the New York Jets, Zach Wilson! The thing is, I don't know who to believe these days.
No, you are spot on, they said JD has the final word. But I don’t know what to believe when I read something anymore.
If previous rumors mean anything then this means we don't have much interest in him. Douglas floated around a lot of free agent names like Linsley who we never even inquired about the price, Will Fuller (early) and JuJu (late) were hot rumors that never got offers. Never heard anything else about Hendrickson after the initial rumor. Guess we're going to find out boys.
Maybe but it’s definitely not a good way to start off the regime if they disagree already on such a big decision. Also regardless of what I think of Sam or Wilson, it wouldn’t sit right with me if the GM decided to go with the rookie and get rid of Sam if the coaches liked him. The GM could have other motives for making such a decision (less pressure and gives him an extra year or so if he drafts a rookie QB...If Sam fails he’s automatically on the hot seat). I don’t know, it’s a tough situation if true, but it can’t be a good thing.
Keeping Sam as the starting QB and not wanting to trade Sam for 10 cents on the dollar are two different elements. If the Jets do in fact draft Wilson they will need to bring in a capable backup/bridge QB. Why can’t that person be Darnold?
The final roster decisions rest with the GM. JD said last year that he definitely takes the HC's and CS's recommendations to heart, and he tries his best to get that player or players with the same skill set as the CS wants, but that the final decision is his, and that's how it should be. If Saleh and La Fleur don't like it, tough shit. LaFleur may only be here 2-3 years before he gets a HC job anyway. JD is their boss. They can deal with it. When you've started a new job, did you always agree with decisions your boss made that affected you? If not, did you quit or become disgruntled, or did you just accept that he's the boss, and make the best of the situation you could? This is no longer an organization where the HC reports directly to the owner. JD hired Saleh and can fire him. Saleh reports to JD. While JD seeks consensus, the final responsibility is his. He alone will be held accountable for whom the team drafts and adds in FA. If you were JD, and you believed strongly that Darnold couldn't succeed here or perhaps in the NFL, and you thought that Wilson was a great prospect and could be a very good FQB, would you accept the wishes of the CS, and roll with Darnold instead? If so, then you'd be making them your boss, and you'd be endangering your job and career. Personnel is not their area of expertise. It's supposed to be JD's. He should make the decision, not the CS.
It possibly could be. The thing is, many Jets fans are tired of seeing Darnold's lousy play at QB. The CS may decide to sit the rookie for the first half of the season or even the whole season perhaps. What's going to happen in the first game when the offense has 3 consecutive 3 and outs because Darnold can't make a good decision or overthows open receivers? Fans are gonna start booing. The pressure on Darnold will be crippling. Players play better when they're relaxed. There's no way Darnold will be able to relax this year. He will press to make up for 3 bad years of play, will be focusing on trying to save his career and get a new contract, and it will be his 3rd offense in 4 years. He isn't the sharpest pencil in the box anyway imo. I think the chances of his playing well are slim and none. I think he would only show marginal improvement. HIs confidence may be shot and his psyche damaged.
If you let others tell it, one would think the down field accuracy gap between Wilson & Fields was as wide as the Grand Canyon.
That’s all good and fine but it’s a brand new system and the decision of QB is massive. To go against what the coaching staff wants in this area is just not good for anyone here as it pretty much starts the path down a road that the coaches did not want to go in. I would feel more comfortable about it if I knew that they also liked whichever rookie is picked. If they like Sam and also Wilson for example then I’m fine with JD doing whatever he wants.
Measurements are in: Zach cleared 6'2" with 1/8 inch to spare and weighed in 214lb. This is solid size - not undersized as we were worried. Huge hurdle cleared!!!
No doubt Fields throws the ball well down the field. The Problem with Fields is his processing speed. It kept him on the bench in Georgia and is hurting his draft stock. Did SF trade-up for Fields, Lance or Jones or even Wilson?
Nope, it would only make you an asshole if we draft Wilson and you root for his failure because you like Fields.
