I was doing fine until I saw the new Org Chart with Chris Johnson 2nd from the top. We have one Fake Football Savant at 2 and a complete Idiot at the top. Pray that both Johnsons just let JD run the show. If not? Its business as usual...
56 years a fan, more downs than ups, but I feel rejuvenated with Robert Saleh, now get Deshaun Watson!
It doesn't take a ton to make the playoffs in this league, especially now that they were expanded. If the Dolphins can do it in a year, I sure as hell expect the Jets to be able to, especially with all the money they have and the picks. In the end, this will all revolve around the QB position. If we trade for Watson, we make the playoffs next year. If we draft a QB, we may make the playoffs next year. If we stick with Darnold, we don't make the playoffs. This franchise needs to move away from Sam Darnold, in my opinion. He is not our future
Cautiously optimistic, Which is a helluva improvement from where I was only a few weeks ago. The only thing stopping me from going into a full on giddy moment is the thought that come week 1 our unquestioned starter at QB will be be Samuel Richard Darnold over Morgan and some never was veteran. That would pretty much destroy my faith in Joe Douglas and make me question the judgement of our new coaching staff.
Saleh did a good job as 49ers DC and those players loved playing for him. I do think (hopefully) he will be a very good coach. Time will tell. How well the Jets do is going to depend on how JD does in the draft and FA. They have a lot of draft picks at their disposal plus money to spend in FA. Another factor is getting the right QB in here. Maybe they think its Darnold, maybe a trade for Watson, or maybe it comes in the draft. JD, Saleh, OC Mike LaFleur, and QB coach Rob Calabrese are getting paid the big bucks to figure that out. The Bills with Allen will probably be a strong team going forward, the Dolphins have also done a nice job in rebuilding their team. Bill is goat HC so I doubt the Pats collapse or at the very least will be respectable. This division going forward looks like it will be a strong one. The Jets have their work cut out for them but as the Bills have shown with Beane and McDermott the Jets can get it turned around if they make the right moves. Pressure is on JD and Saleh.
You obviously don't understand the game. There is a lot going on that a lot of people cannot catch with the naked eye. Baseball is my favorite sport. Always will be. Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk
Yeah, there's a lot of unspoken nuances in the game while you wait for the 15th pitcher in the 4th inning to trot his ass to the fucking mound. Give me a break, I played baseball for 20 years, it's a shit spectator sport.
In terms of a teams performance IMO it goes something like: 30% quality of the QB 30% quality of rest of the team 20% quality of coaching 10% luck Lets say to make the playoffs you need to be 60-70% quality team (i.e. you can make it without a great QB if everything else is near perfect) So for the Jets we have a below average QB (say 10%), the rest of the team is well below average for the NFL (say 10%), we are incredibly unlucky in everything we do (0%) and so let's say the coaching goes from the previous regime (5%) to at least decent for the league (15%) then we are still a 40% quality team - if we don't get a top tier QB then we will never get anywhere (as I have no faith in our ability to build a good team)
It's not a shortcut - he could be a franchise QB for another 10 years! this isnt the same as bringing in Favre at the end of his career, the guy is 25 years old.
I’m an optimist at heart and I hope my dear ol Jets can turn it around to be prevalent once again. I think Saleh and JD have tremendous potential to shape this roster into something special. We will need a few good bounces the right way to get this thing going. All gas no brake!
I'm feeling better but I'm not expecting miracles for next season. 8-8/9-7 would be great. Parcells took us from 1-15 to 9-7 but, that was Parcells and not a rookie HC.
Optimistic? My lil bro is a big wig in Vegas so the minute the Bellagio opens for 2022 SB Bets, I'm VENMOing $500 on the Jets! Im gonna be RICH!!!
I'm very optimistic right now. Not necessarily about a SB, because honestly that's an irrational goal to be "optimistic" about - any team other than the defending SB champs that says they're "optimistic about winning a championship" is setting themselves up for failure. All I ask is competency in building and running the team, and we have that in spades right now. Woody is my only fear of messing things up, but Douglas has been cooking and in less than two years has set this team up as the single best team in the league regarding draft capital AND capspace. He had a great first draft, and hired an uncontroversial first time head coach with a ton of NFL coaching experience. NFL free agents are reacting positively to the team's direction. This is the most exciting this team has been in years because there's no obvious path of failure waiting for us. Losing out on Lawrence felt like it had appeared, but - while a gut punch - it really wasn't as catastrophic as it felt at the time. If Watson somehow decides to demand a trade here, awesome; Douglas has been saving for this occasion. If not, there's a whole bunch of draft capital to spend and or reinvest in trade downs (which he's already shown a propensity for). The entire organization is moving in the right direction for once, and doing so in a way we usually don't see (astute planning and preparation by young, hungry, high-end talent hires). There's every reason to be optimistic about the Jets right now. I'll save my typical depression and disappointment for when it's actually earned. For the first time in a long time the organization isn't actively catalyzing it.
IDK about optimistic, but I'm encouraged. I do have faith that Douglas knows what he's doing, and I'm glad to see the Johnsons finally grasped the concept of putting him in charge. The hiring of Saleh is also encouraging, but he's a rookie HC. It seems like he has the "right stuff", but people truly underestimate the enormity of running an entire team as opposed to a part of it...many really good coordinators have failed trying to make that jump. I'm choosing to believe he can do it for now. And then there's the gaping QB question. Can Darnold become good enough to win a SB with the right CS and talent? More importantly, what do Douglas and Saleh think about that, and what are they going to do? There's a lot of potential for a big turn around and new chapter of sustained success for this team, but there's also an equal amount of potential for the SOJs to wipe that all out. I hope they finally figure it out.
I can envision it with these two based on how highly regarded both are in the NFL. This isn't like a scenario when Gase was first hired where I thought the most optimistic scenario is that he could turn Darnold into a great QB and that would make up for how bad of a head coach he is. In terms of short term outlook, it would depend on what we are doing at QB mostly. If we get Watson, I expect instant playoff contenders. If its draft pick or retaining Darnold, my expectations are around .500 again for the first year. Overall, I think the most important pieces are in place. The GM, the HC, and hopefully the QB depending on what they do. The rest isn't that hard when you got the most important things locked up.
Simply not having Gase as HC makes the world look more beautiful everyday. I really like the Saleh hire and JD. But I will simply be happy if things are better this year and by better I mean that we are still in the game when the second quarter starts and that the season is not over after 4 games. If we can get to be mediocre and 8-9 or 9-8 (17 games next year)I will be very happy. It will nice to be a Jet fan who can root for his team again. 2020 was by far the worst Jet season I have seen in 50 plus years. So, whatever happens in 2021 it is going to be so much better. Oh and F Adam Gase. I needed to say that one more time.
