Yep that could happen. The issue is this may well be the last year we can trade Sam and still get decent value. If that value is a 2nd (I dont believe anyone would give two 2nds) then maybe they trade him. We cant buy draft picks with our cap money but we can buy a vet QB.

TBH I'm dying to learn what their plan is and how it plays out.

I know Watson is better than Dak but it’s not by that much IMO...If we’re going to be spending a lot (salary cap wise) on a franchise QB would it be smart to keep all of our picks and just sign Dak?

This is all assuming he’s 100% healthy after that nasty ankle injury

I don’t know just throwing it out there

If we can get him for the Seattle picks, then go ahead and do it. Anything north of that, though, we'd potentially be putting him in a similar position to what he's been in with Houston, with no talent around him and forcing him to carry the team by himself.

I would love to get Watson in here (I was beside myself when the Jets passed on him), but we can't mortgage the entire future in order to bring him here either. But at the right price, or maybe even a bit above that price, definitely.

If we did get Watson for Seattles picks it would be like the universes way of protecting Watson from the Gase years.

If we don't get Watson Dak would be my second choice for QB.

Dak was absolutely ballin this year and also did last year until his ankle snapped unfortunately

Instead of sending the farm to Houston for a slightly better option, maybe we just load up the team and take on Dak?

He gets a lot of hate because he’s the Cowboys QB but he’s just slightly below elite to me

Health is the big question plus it seems like he’s probably going back to Dallas anyway but who knows

Yeah, same here! It was exciting before, but Watson being added to the mix has made things even more interesting. So many options and paths for Douglas to take. Not just with QB, but with everything. Should be a wild off-season, but Douglas started it off right by hiring Saleh.

I’d take Watson who wouldn’t! Here’s what I believe is the issue on spending our whole wad on him.

realistically the Texans want 3 1st rounders including #2 so they can take Fields. So that’s #2 + #23 + 1st 2022 Sea. I think you would agree that’s the price.

#2 is worth a lot more than we think in this draft. Especially to a playoff team like Saints, Washington, Indy, Chicago who might make a pitch for Watson like 3 first rounders but Texans would get a better offer from Carlolina/Miami/Dallas and pass. BUT we could trade them #2 for those 3 first rounders!

So essentially the asking price is 5 first round picks for Watson! That’s just too much.

I draw the line at 2nd overall + 23 overall after that I think we would deplete our roster and Watson won’t have the support he needs to be successful

I would LOVE this. And to think that it's like, the "worst case scenario".

I wanted Lawrence so badly, but Joe Douglas is an absolute stud. All roads point towards progress.

Miami can easily beat that Tua, with 10 tds and 6 ints as a rookie with a 6-3 record 5th overall pick, the 3rd pick in the draft., Houstons 2nd rd pick , and Howard who might be the defensive player of the yr. This gives Houston a qb to build around who is very mature and much more like the qb Houston wants to build around, The third pick would be a stud, Howard lead the league with 10 ints and is a top 5 cb. however the Fins drafted a cb last yr to replace him. Plus the 3rd pick in the second rd

That's because you don't know the facts, you're just looking at it from your perspective.

Let's not go crazy here, chief. I've seen every game Dak has played in and while he can be fun to watch and has some clutch in him, he's also played on a loaded roster and behind one of the best lines in the league for most of his career and he hasn't looked to me like the caliber of Watson or anything near it.

I may not be on Team Deshaun but it's not close between him and Dak. Kind of like comparing Aikman and Montana, just at a lower caliber.

That said, if the Jets actually built a roster the right way, Dak would be more than good enough to win with.

I agree. JD and RS got the keys and at this point we need to have trust in their judgment

Watson is probably number 3 or 4 and Dak is probably 7 or 8 in the league just off the top of my head. Watson is definitely better but Aikman to Montana is a little much

You’re right about the oline until this year. They weren’t good and he still put up big until he got hurt.

My main point was in your last paragraph - Is Dak plus all of our picks > Watson plus giving up God knows how many draft picks? I’m torn myself but it should be considered

If the dolphins got Watson it would throw the draft into even more turmoil. In fact, no matter where he goes it complicates the draft.

No, the very Jetsy thing to do would be to pass on him yet again, failing to correct the mistake they made in 2017, trading down for picks, building up the team, then in a year or two having to use 4 or 5 #1 picks to trade up for a QB who isn't a third as talented as Watson, or not being able to trade up and having to go with a series of JAG QBs for the next 5-10 seasons.

Two yrs into his tenure we have 2 players Q. Williams and Becton., and many questions. We have a lot of cap room but nobody is signed for next yr . JD needs to hit it out the park after stinking it up the last 2 off seasons

Watson isn't another team's problem. He isn't a problem player. He was lied to and mistreated in Houston, and sabotaged by his owner and former HC. I believe that McNair is a racist or Andre Johnson wouldn't have spoken out and told Watson to get away while he could.

Watson's contract is very reasonable. Who else do we have to pay? You are mistaken about losing our draft flexibility. How do you see that happening? We still would have a #1 pick both this year and next. We'd also have a great QB which would make us more competitive and more fun to watch.

What if JD trades down from #2 as some posters here think we should? Then we may not take a QB at all. Then we're stuck with Sam or JAGs for the next several years. I love Fields and also like Lance and Wilson a lot, but they are only prospects. As good/great a prospects as they are, they are still only that. Watson is proven. We wouldn't have to wait 2-3, maybe 4 years to be really competitive. We could be in the playoffs in 2021. And if the QB JD drafted didn't pan out or if he waited and built the team up, and then tried to trade up for a QB, it could wind up costing more than Watson will, and the QB not be nearly as good.

If you'll remember I wasn't for rushing the rebuild. I wasn't for winning games that would give us worse draft position, or making any moves that would have had us win another game or two this season. I was also initially against trading for Watson, but when I realized that we could get him and still have plenty of draft picks and cap space with which to build around him, and we could for certain be a playoff team by next season if not this one, then I saw that it was a no-brainer. Why wait for 3-4 years for something that might never happen, when if we get Watson, it's a pretty sure thing that we will become a winner.

This is an unusual situation. You can't pass up a QB like this. The #3 QB in the NFL is worth a heck of a lot more than just the #2 pick in one draft.
