The guy on FS1 made an interesting note this morning that was so exaggerated to make his point about why they should not trade him.

They should only trade Watson if they get a first round pick for every year Watson is on their roster.

I don't think people quite grasp how good Watson is. So here's a scenario.

I excluded both players first year because I'd have to turn this into sixteen game averages. Both player did not complete a sixteen game schedule in their first year.

    Averages - first three years
    Player A

    27-20 W-L
    28.7 touchdowns
    10.3 interceptions
    64.3% completion
    4,131.3 yards
    99.4 quarterback rating

    Player B
    25-22 W-L
    28.3 touchdowns
    9.3 interceptions
    68.7% completion
    4,280 yards
    104.7 quarterback rating

    Who is who?

Losing out on the #1 pick and Lawrence (who would have been the easy pick), and now potentially a Deshaun Watson being on the block. Huge test for JD for sure.

I don't think he's in a pressure cooker at all, I think he's already built enough of an asset cache that he doesn't HAVE to go in any specific direction. The crossroads that you reference are basically both desirable paths, so it's not a life/death situation. It's actually pretty neat what he's already managed to accomplish here.

I think I know what the Texans did to get to this point, but I won't post it here. That should give you an idea of what it is.

Player 2 is Watson and player 1 is Aaron Rodgers. But it is a little off because Rodgers first full season was a rebuild year. Tough to take over as a starter during a rebuild.

I think if you're looking at the trajectory of both franchises today, one is clearly on the rise while the other couldn't possibly look worse.

I think Player B is Deshaun Watson. Not as sure as to who Player A is.

Ya but I'm not used to processing the Jets that way.

That is extremely vague and I have no idea what you’re referring to.

I do know what the Texans did to get here, it just blows my mind that they actually accomplished it.

I think the Saleh factor is big here. Watson may be feeling the new coach a lot.

ugh. JD has to get this done. Or he’s not up to the task to be a GM in NYC.

We have 4 1sts, and a high upside stop-gap QB. Absorbing his salary would still put us at $65M with no-brainer cuts.

He needs to trade back the #2 NOW and give Houston the biggest haul of picks in history.

And we still have our 1s leftover. this is better than TLaw.

Plus NE ends up drafting Mac Jones who turns out to be the best QB in the draft!

Oh I don't blame you. I sometimes feel like I'm making it up.

I think he's staying vague because it will get very political very quickly...

How far would you go to get Watson?

It's not that #2 is treated lightly, it's more like Watson is treated very highly. There is a reason why there has not been another situation like this where a young FQB (Watson is just 25) , one of the League's best, gets traded. If we get Fields as number two, the best case scenario is maybe in a couple of years he will be a Watson. The worst case, he will be a Sanchez/Sam. Here you are getting the best case scenario right away ready to deliver Pro Bowl season. That difference is worth additional first round picks.

Player B is Watson because he's the all time leader in completion percentage but I'm raking my brain thinking of who Player A is. I was thinking Peyton but he doesn't match the W-L total and he played 16 games his first year.

3 1st rounders. It's like we are trading up in the draft to draft Deshaun Watson.
