My friend is a Raider fan, he was over for Saturday's game on the NFLN. He was saying it would be just like them to fuck up and win on Sunday. Imagine Oakland wins and both teams' fans go home pissed off.
The Raiders are probably just excited to be in New York because they can go out partying after the game. They will totally mail this one in and hope Detroit is stupid enough to try and beat Dallas. I don't even think Brady Quinn is that good.
Well, I'm sure our coaching staff and players aren't overlooking anything. I know they have a good secondary and all, but I'm gonna take a rare break from my usual pessimism and say we win this game by double digits. In our stadium with the playoffs on the line I think we show up huge and they hardly show up at all.
Peter King was saying Sunday night that the bowl game between ND and LSU will decide the first QB taken in the draft. Apparently Jamarcus whatever is a rising prospect in the Duante culpepper mold and if he outplays Quinn, he will be the first QB picked. Troy Smith in the 3rd rnd he says
First, I don't think any NFL team would intentionally lose. The only caveat here is this a an Al Davis team and I wouldn't trust Al Davis for anything. The first brought up the fact that strength of schedule would determine who got Brady Quinn. That clearly looks like the Lions assuming the Lions lose against Dallas and we win against Oaklnad. Bottom line: if we are practicing all week like we expect Oakland to mail it in, then we have sadly misjudged our opponents and we will be 9-7 and looking at next year's draft. If we go about our business and work hard then we should win the game. If we roast marshmallow's and bake cupcakes all week like with Herm, then we could lose by over 10 points - no problem.
I'm sure the Raiders aren't going to tank the game. It is us after all. :raiders: As a ND fan I don't know what team is worse for Quinn. This blows. He's screwed.
I hear ya, I am not a ND fan, ( Canes will rise up!!) but I can see him pulling a Elway/Eli and opting out of both markets. Eli hasn't been doing so well though.
The team after those two are what? The Bucs? I wouldn't mind him going there actually.... Simms? Hah.
The Raiders has become the worst franchise in pro sports. It might be time for the league to step in and fix it, like the NBA did back with the Nets franchise when it was a blight on the league. Detroit may be a year behind in that race.
Exactly! I'm amazed at how many just don't get the simple truth of the old cliche "on any given sunday"... I repeat: there are no "easy" wins in the NFL!
The Raiders are the only team in the league, including the Lions, that you can beat just by running the ball and kicking field goals. That's all the Jets need to do. Sit back in coverage. Wait for the offense to make a big mistake (usually takes about 2 plays) and play Martyball, only more conservative. There is no way the Jets are losing this game unless the coaches and players get too cocky and don't bring their A game. But, with Mangini at the helm, I have no fear.
Why would Art Shell, or the majority of Raiders players for that matter, give a rat's ass about Brady Quinn? They're not gonna be in Oakland next year, so it makes no difference to them. IMO, it'd make more sense to play your ass off and show what you can do, so maybe hopefully some other team will take a chance on you during the offseason.
Of course they don't. I couldn't imagine any team thinking it's good to lose the last few ball games cause that will put their team in the right place to draft some guy. It's about the money for them. And that means playing well all the time.
We should pound the Raiders into submission this week! As you said, they have nothing to play for - in fact, their FO wants them to lose this game. (secretly, of course). So, I expect us to get a big lead on them early and cruise to an easy win. We should blitz Walter (or Brooks) frequently, keep the pressure on. Force them into mistakes. :jets:
I was talking to a friend of mine who plays for Tampa Bay and he said that the players on the Raiders have lied down weeks ago and that all they want to do is get through the game and season. They have nothing to play for...not even concerned about the draft pick. They're not looking forward to playing in New York in December. Don't think this will be a trap game, but I think the Jets will be playing hard just to secure a playoff spot.
Well, if he said that he's changed his mind quite a bit in a week, at least according to these guys: http://www.footballsfuture.com/news/2006/12/peter-king-lists-troy-smith-2-overall.html
he did say Smith in the 3rd, but he might have been quoting other scouts in both the Russell/Quinn battle and Smith being overlooked.
