What team already has an elite QB with more than one first round pick per year and almost all of their day 2/3 picks? I don't understand why you think we'll be void of all assets if we trade for Watson. We'll have an elite QB on the books for a while, a young LT on his rookie deal for three years, money, first round picks, day 2 picks, day 3 picks. We aren't emptying the cupboard here.
Three first round picks for him leaves us with a full slate of draft picks minus one first round pick and still $40+ million in cap space.
Jets are in the unique position to be able to offer up there next 3 1st rd picks and only being without a 1st rd pick in one draft 3 years from now. Jets can trade for Watson and build a winning team around him with remainder of draft picks plus FA.
For starters -Best WR at 23 and a FA WR -Najee or Etienne with round 2 -Best Center at round 3. Sign a top IOL as well.
I don't think people can wrap their head around how many assets we actually have. Over the next 2 years: 4 1's 2 2's 2 3's That doesn't even include the capital that we will get for Sam. You can give up 3 1's and a 3 and you would still have 1, 2 2's, and a 3 within the next 2 years. Throw Sam in for a 2 (per what Schefter said a few weeks ago there are at least 10 teams who would give up a day 2 pick for him) you now have a 1 and 3 2's and a 3 over the next two years. That doesn't even include FA money we can spend. Like you said, we would have our FQB + franchise LT for the foreseeable future.
Thank you for writing it out like this because I really don't understand why there are people assuming we can only make one huge move and then we have to call it a day. That's not even remotely close to accurate.
He might not have a choice if there isn't another team who comes close to our offer. Houston can still say no to any offer they get. Also FWIW, Saleh was one of the coaches he wanted ownership to interview for the HC job and they didn't even request an interview.
If we’re able to get him and keep the 23rd pick, then I’m trading down from 23 to recoup picks in the 2nd round. You can still get good to great players in the 2nd round and I trust JD
He's too toxic for the Texans now. If a team with a chance to win now/soon offers them less than the Jets and Watson says he'll waive his no trade, the Texans will pull the trigger. Better something than nothing. Hell, I was reading before that Watts wants a trade now and they are expected to honor his wishes. They are blowing it all up. I'd love it, but he isn't coming here.
When it is laid out like that the contract (which was my biggest worry) is inconsequential really and as you rightly say, is actually peanuts for a quality player. All on what they will want for him picks wise then.
I know it's a joke but Madden doesn't value draft picks for players highly anymore. It'd be a red bar "GTFO" on Houston's end, even straight up for the #1 pick and two more firsts lol
Why did this get moved? It quite literally has to do with the Jets. I don’t wanna have to go to a new part of the site to talk about something that will probably have multiple Jets related updates.
Dear Management. @Petrozza @Cman65 @Royal Tee @WW85 Let's keep this on the main Jets page. Jets are in play for this situation. Until we determine Jets are out of it, we can take it back to NFL forum.
Couldn’t be more realistic as they ran the same offensive system in college and there is no better platform for a comparison. Lawrence is literally a bigger, faster, stronger arm version of Watson who would be on a rookie contract.
