If you have the opportunity to get a top 5 quarterback talent then you have to explore the option. I wouldn't advocated trading away 5 first round picks or something like that. But considering we have 4 in two years? Three and a second would seal the deal for me honestly.
And that would be stupid. They'd be paying him and passing up on a ton of draft capital to start their rebuild. I'm sure with a new coach and new GM, they are TOTALLY going to choose to play with a backup, no picks and the worst image in the league.
No one in terms of draft assets, but I read an article (might've just been an opinion piece honestly) where the 49ers have a lot of chips in terms of including Bosa (name mentioned) or other young players under team control in addition to draft picks. Bosa + two 1's would be interesting from them.
In the next 5 years a QB of his quality should be getting 40mil. Per year. This is a team friendly contract. Because the Texans paid Watson a $27 million signing bonus last year the cost is very affordable. A team would be on the hook for $10.54 million in 2021, $35 million in 2022, $37 million in 2023, and $32 million in 2024 and in 2025. The average cost would be just $29.3 million per year which is way under the market for quarterbacks so it would be a bargain bin contract compared to Watson’s talent level.
Sometimes you have draw a line in the sand. By trading him they are irritating and alienating their entire fan base. The Texans have to walk away with a ton of pieces (especially after Hopkins last year). They are not going to let Watson bully them.
Spending the 2nd overall pick on Fields or Wilson is a very risky proposal this Deshaun Watson situation is a potential franchise saving blessing package the 2 and whatever else you need before the Dolphins do it.

Your overlooking one thing, Watson wants to play for Saleh. He was one of the preferred coaching requests he had.

You honestly don't think they have irritates and alienated their entire fanbase already? Houston really holds no cards here. They have to rebuild now. They have a new coach and a new GM. Their public image could not be worse. They will get AT LEAST two firsts, probably third, plus more no matter what. If Watson will accept one that's a little lesser of a deal than the other, they 100000% will and should and will.
Is Watson a top 5 QB? Doesn't he have an injury history? Don't get me wrong I would take him for the right deal but giving up # 2 and more seems rich to me.
Yes he’s without a doubt top 5. Arguably top 3 behind Mahomes and Rodgers. He tore his ACL, I wouldn’t consider that an “injury history” considering he's played in all but 1 game the rest of his 4 year career. The price tag is rich no doubt but that’s because you’re getting the third best player at the most important position.
Yes he is top 5 and 25 years old. He lead the NFL in passing yards this season which people forget. And he's throwing to people with the talent level of some of us on this board. He's an absolute stud. If you were told last year you could trade Jamal Adams and the #2 overall pick for a top 5 QB we'd all laugh and say that was a Madden level trade. Yet we might be able to do just that right now.
