Count me in as “clueless”, curious to know what TDK is because the only thing that came up for me is former stock TDK electronics INC and I know it ain’t that.
Allen has it all size/speed/howitzer for an arm/toughness/leadership, Allen worked hard to get better and more accurate, Darnold worked hard and is still the 32nd ranked QB in the NFL
IDK if this is the correct thread... maybe this is what the guy meant about sam not working on his mechanics? this is pre-draft. https://www.nfl.com/news/sam-darnold-not-tinkering-with-throwing-motion-0ap3000000918852 "I'm not trying to change my throwing motion at all. I think I get the ball off pretty quick. There is kind of a wind-up, but I think I get it off quick and that's what matters," Darnold said. "The motion I have is what got me to this point, and I really haven't gotten into trouble with it. .... . My throwing motion is fine."
Yep. I've seen/heard this attitude before. Someone has a little bit of success and they think that their mechanics are good enough. They fear that if they change what "got them there" they'll suddenly get worse or not know how to perform. Well, Sam is looking at it wrong. He may have made it to the NFL in spite of his mechanics/footwork. He is the worst-rated starting QB in the NFL, so something is obviously wrong, and it all can't be blamed on the Jets. He has to take personal responsibility for his improvement. After all, it's his life, his career. If he wants to be great, then it's up to him to be unflinchingly, brutally honest with himself, and make whatever changes those who are trying to help him suggest. Being the worst starting QB in the NFL isn't good enough. If he thinks it is, then he's in the wrong profession, and should go do something else. I wouldn't even want him working in the Fire Dept. with his Dad with that kind of attitude.
See I don’t like this attitude from Sam... Aaron Rodgers one of the best passers of all time had a completely different throwing motion at Cal and he worked on it until he perfected it. It’s the will to want to better yourself not be content with mediocrity because it’s been good at times.. because guess what? It’s also been really bad at times!
yeah, not a good look, imo. it WAS pre-draft, so i dunno what he's about these last 2 offseasons, we know he does the Jordan Palmer frisbee camp. So does JA. He's buddies with JA, or so it seems. JA's work came with Tom House (also does baseball pitchers) and Tony Racioppi. he mentioned studying rodgers. https://www.cover1.net/taming-josh-...ks-have-buffalos-qb-primed-for-a-year-3-leap/
https://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-41106545-4 “Jets notes: Robert Saleh and presumptive OC Mike LaFleur have watched a lot of Sam Darnold tape and they believe he has untapped potential...Hearing former Jags and Bills LB Paul Posluszny is being considered for a staff position — a Saleh favorite from JAX days...No word on DC. Frank Bush, Jets' interim DC, worked with Saleh in HOU, but a reunion doesn't seem likely. It'll be interesting to see if Saleh calls the defensive plays. It's a possibility, I'm told.” i’m really really starting to believe we are keeping Sam and treating out of two. The more I look at the way the Shanahan offense runs and especially the way it was run in San Francisco the last couple of years, the more I am fine with it.
When you think of Joe Douglas, he may value building the roster over improving the QB position. The Ravens won without a great QB while he was there. Flacco was there best and he wasn't that great. The Eagles won the Super Bowl with back-up QB Nick Foles too. Maybe that is the route Joe takes in 2021. Sign a quality back-up QB to compete with Sam and trade out of the #2 overall slot. It's definitely a realistic option.
Let’s see, I love the HC hire of Saleh and him bringing in Lafleur as OC. Along with JD I’m gonna trust their decision on the QB position. I personally have mixed feelings because I do think Sam still has potential and could thrive in a SF type offense. But if he doesn’t? Then what? We may not be in a better position to grab a talented QB than we are right now. It’s a tough decision but I’ve put my faith in those making it.
Don't read too much into this. Unless Saleh and JD are complete morons, they will keep saying Sam is awesome. This is all you need to know to understand what above statement means and how this works: https://www.azcardinals.com/news/kliff-kingsbury-josh-is-our-guy . And this was only after one rookie season of Josh with even worse OL and weapons than the Jets, and Kyler was not a better prospect than Fields is. The hype helped to fetch a second rounder for Josh. Maybe we will get lucky as well and get something similar.
I understand all of this but this isn't the same as the Cardinals situation. Rosen was not going to fit what Kingsbury does and Murray was absolutely a better prospect than Fields. As someone pointed out, look at who Douglas won titles with at QB and look at who LaFleur went to the Super Bowl with at QB. It should not shock anyone in the slightest if Sam is back next year starting and the 2 pick is traded to build out the team around him.
What if Joe Douglas is even more genius than we realize and James Morgan takes the NFL by storm in 2021?
This seems completely lost on those who are dying to get rid of Darnold and replace him with a new "savior". I get their frustration, not only with Darnold, but the failure of the Jets for decades to draft and develop a great QB. I'm still pissed that they took O'Brien over Marino. And my preference would be to take Fields (or Wilson or whichever of the highly rated QBs coming out this year they like best) at the #2. BUT...as I keep saying, as you've said, I don't think this is Douglas's M.O. OK, shoot the messenger! Sorry to bear bad tidings, but the reality is as you stated: Douglas learned under two different teams that you don't need a great QB to win a SB. Douglas is no dummy. In fact he's the best GM we've had - not coincidently - in decades, and learned his craft in winning organizations. His moves so far as Jets GM have been smart, even if not all of them have worked out (R. Anderson). He has said he wants to build a sustainable winner, and isn't looking at short term success as his measurement. He inherited maybe the worst roster in the NFL and has had exactly ONE draft and ONE FA period to begin fixing that, and so there are many holes yet to be filled. With all of this in mind, why is it so difficult for people to grasp the likelihood that he prefers trading the #2 pick for more prime draft capital, and further that he may even double down and use a cascade of trade backs toward that end, and as a result not be able to land a QB he likes this year? Despite all the "justification" and "rationalization" here about how the "smartest" thing to do is to take a QB at #2, or somewhere in the first round, as the automatic replacement for Darnold - some of which I personally agree with - still doesn't change the likelihood that Douglas is not QB shopping this time around. All those who have decided that Darnold is "trash" are ignoring the signals being sent by Douglas, and now, by Saleh. And you're vastly underestimating the huge impact that playing under two horrible CS and with sub-NFL talent for three years on his development. You can point to how Allen has succeeded to "prove" that Darnold is trash, but that's apples and oranges and proves nothing. It completely disregards the fact that every person is different, and every situation is different. Take NASCAR as an example: the rules require that they all drive the same basic car, so the difference in winning is due to the different abilities of the drivers. But we can't move QBs around to different teams who all provide the exact same level of coaching, talent, resources, etc. so trying to compare Darnold to Allen (or anyone else) is pointless. Bottom line: Don't be surprised if Douglas doesn't draft a QB this year.
Sorry, but I can’t stand bullshit narratives that people use to pile onto players. Sam hasn’t been good, or anything near what we drafted him to be. But the idea that he’s cocky and isn’t working on his mechanics is just garbage. He’s talked every offseason about shortening his motion and it’s very obviously visually faster now. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ga...ing-technology-to-improve-his-throwing-motion
You are trying to spin the situations into something different, when they are nearly identical. If anything Kingsbury literally said "Josh is our guy", something I haven't heard from Jets about Sam. Also, Rosen was coming off a rookie year, while Sam was QB for 3 years and regressed into the worst in NFL. The point is, don't buy into what they are saying now or what you hearing from insiders. This does not mean a darn thing. When full evaluation of prospects is done, JD and Salah will make their decision. We will probably not know for sure until the pick or Sam's trade. Until then you will hear full support for Sam, and it does not mean a thing.
I think footwork is overrated, and Sam's footwork is fine. I say this b/c every week I see QBs tossing dimes while throwing across their bodies, behind their backs, while on the run with NO footwork consideration. Look at Crowder's 35 yard dime to Barious while running then hopping into the air to throw the ball. Zero footwork. Perfect pass. Now, standing the pocket like a statue, ya, Throw with your body torque and off your front foot, blah blah blah. But 70-80% of throws the QB is on the move, even within the pocket, and footwork goes out the door.
