If he's gone, it means the Jets have made deep playoff runs. The system should hopefully be in place to plug n play. That said, I'm still leaning toward starting with a fresh QB.
If that's what you need to do with a 4th year QB going into a contract year, you're better off just drafting a QB at 2.
As much as we hate him, Belichick hasn't had any trouble finding OC's for his system and the same could be said for guys like Mike Tomlin and Pete Carroll, they seem to make it work every year and all are thought of as "defensive-minded" HC's. Even a newcomer like Mike Vrabel lost Matt LaFleur to GB and replaced him with Arthur Smith (another guy that looks like he's gonna be a HC next season). Point being, it's more important IMO to have your guy as HC and trust his system/scheme and his ability to find guys that can work within those concepts. Time will tell but hopefully that's what they saw in Saleh which is why he's our HC.
No he didn't say that Sam is "probably" going to the be the QB. He said that he has a "chance" to be on the team as the thinking is that Shanahan's system is one that Sam could succeed in. I won't care if they bring Sam back as long as they hedge their bets by still drafting one of Fields, Lance and Wilson. Rolling with Sam and Morgan or Sam, Morgan and Jones/Trask would be a huge mistake imo.
Have you looked at who the QBs were that Daboll had to work with prior to Allen? I could be mistaken, but imo no OC could have achieved a high ranking with those stiffs.
I’m not saying that he literally said that I’m saying he’s reinforcing the notion that started last night that there’s a very good chance Sam is sticking around. I’ve been ready for this possibility the whole time even though others were moving on before the season ended. So to me, this is more expected than it is a surprise.
That's not how it works. It's the team that Saleh came from (the 49ers) who will get the pick, not the team hiring him. The only way we'd get a pick for Saleh is if some team hired him to be their GM or Team President in a decade or so.
If he’s gone I hope he does us a solid and come out of the closet before hand and get us a couple of 3rd round picks
Everyone's getting caught up in reading smoke signals regarding Saleh/JD's intentions with Sam Darnold. My guess is, it's something in the middle, like if they end up valuing and targeting a QB with the 2nd pick, or trading down to target a QB and picks, if it falls that way they'll do it. If not, they have a year to see if Sam D is truly broken or if he can improve. Not the worst fallback, if they can get a bunch of offensive support via draft and FA.
I'm assuming they bring in that lesbian intern. Maybe she gets hired somewhere else and nets us a pick. But hilarious post nonetheless.
IMO in choosing a new QB, the first consideration shouldn't be which QB fits Shanahan's system? Shanahan ain't with the Jets. The ONLY consideration is who is the best QB prospect, who has the highest ceiling. Draft him, and then build the system around him, scrapping Shanahan's system if need be. They would look really stupid taking Wilson because he's the best fit, then he suffers another torn labrum on his throwing shoulder as the result of a sack or his 3/4 throwing motion, then his arm is shot like Chad's. That is just as risky as rolling with Sam and not drafting a QB. That would be foolish in the extreme imo.
The Shanahan systems is geared towards "bringing the best" out of "any" QB. So these folks really need to scout the QB options in the draft & FA vs. Sam.
