Kellen Clemens could not have a better mentor to develop under and learn from than Chad. Whatever type of starting QB that Kellen turns out to be will be directly related in large part to having the ability to learn under Chad and with Schottenheimer and Mangini. I believe that the initial environment that a rookie QB goes into is one of the most important elements in the development of that QB. That environment can cause him to fail or it can help him succeed. Other than maybe Peyton Manning, you will not find a more open, hard working selfless person to help Clemens than Chad You will not find someone who can explain the art of quaterbacking and the reading of defenses, routes and proections than Chad. Whether Chad starts one more year, 5 more years or if Kellen takes over next year, one thing is certain: Chad will have played a big part in his development, and he will be a better QB because of it. There is simply not a better environment for a young QB to develop in than what we have here with the Jets,Chad and the coaching staff we have.

Now I do think that Kellen is our future, but I feel that because we were given the opportunity for him to learn behind Chad for a year or two and not geth thrown to the fire and have his development crippled.

It is a big hidden benefit of Chad, regardless of whether you are for or aginst him.

i do agree with that. although chad is definitely the guy and is a large reason we're 9-6, clemens right now is the future of the team. chads intelligence, understanding of the position, mental toughness, and hard-working mindset could play a huge role in the development of clemens.

I am a huge Chad supporter so obviously I agree. I think that is why Rivers is so good so early in his career. He wasnt thrown into the fire and had 2 years to learn from Brees, one of the top NFL Quarterbacks. Same with Pennington, he had a couple of years to learn uder Vinny. Just to throw this in against the Giants, I can 100% say that Chad pennington after 2 shoulder surgeries is still better than Eli Manning. He has all the heart, composure under fire, and smarts. Hopefully Clemens picks up a lot of that from Chad.

mentoring a young QB is like teaching a child how to behave...if you have the skills you will be successful in teching the Younger QB, likewise if your an asshole of a person, your child will be an asshole as well...

wow that was a pretty random analogy

Oh definitely which is why I feel so bad for Eli Manning. If only he had some time to learn the position he would had been such a better QB.

And he had Kurt Warner in front of him, who for all the good guy vibes has some of the sharpest elbows in the league when it comes to dealing with his competitors for a job.

Matt Leinart has been slowed down a bit by this in Arizona this season also.

I want Clemens to be great when h does play but I hope he never plays for us b/c that will mean Chad is healthy and playing every week.
