Douglas is playing with fire regarding his job security if he brings back Darnold and he has another bad year.
This is sad but so true. In an ideal world, Sam has a great last game and our franchise is smart enough to realize he still isn't the answer. You can't take anything for granted with this team though. The path forward could be plain to see for 99% of us and I'd still have very little faith we'd take the required actions. I'm hopeful JD is a game changer for us but I've been spurned so many times as a fan that he's going to have to do a lot of things right before I truly trust him.
Sam sucks at football. The numbers don't lie. He's also too soft...no leadership skills at all. He'll be released because no GM in their right mind would trade for him.
Soft is the perfect word he had the world by the nuts NY forever losing team Biggest spotlight Opportunity to be a living god yet Him deciding not to correct his mechanics is all I needed to hear Done PS Fuck the Johnsons
Sorry, but there's no chance you get as high as a 3 and you definitely won't get two picks if you somehow roofie some GM's drink and force him to give you a 3. Darnold is due money in May, and no team is going to give up a lot for him when they can get the same thing from a younger, cheaper QB in the draft. If a team wants to spend two years developing a project QB, there's better ways to do it. Darnold will be with the Jets next year as a backup to whoever they draft, and he'll walk at the end of next season as a FA - OR - the Jets will take whatever they can get for him, which, based on circumstances, won't likely be higher than a 5 at best.
In all the chaos going on right now remember that Darnold had mechanical flaws at USC and that he was widely quoted as saying he did not need to change his throwing motion for the NFL. The Jets definitely did not help him but he also was not asking to be helped for things that needed to be fixed.
That ship has sailed. Sam is not going to be a good QB here or anywhere. He doesn't have the right mental attitude/aptitude.
Like ideas, not all opinions are equal or good. There are good opinions and bad opinions. Bad opinions are a result of posters not being knowledgeable enough, or using faulty reasoning to come to their conclusions, or not being in touch with reality. We have posters here who are casual fans, who don't even know the names of Jets players and coaches, who haven't read half the posts here, who don't realize that the NFL has changed, and who simply aren't very knowledgeable. They're welcome to have their opinions, but that doesn't mean that their opinions can hold water or have any basis in fact or rationality. That doesn't mean that the posters who espouse them are dumb or bad posters. It may mean that they simply don't have the time or interest to follow the team and read as much as others can and do. Even more knowledgeable posters can have bad ideas and opinions at times. None of us are immune. I've had my share. We all should be treated with respect, but imo that doesn't mean that all ideas should be accepted or seen as valid.
But was he actually widely quoted at all? Here's what he said after his rookie season before he was put under the tutelage of Gase: It looks like he actually was looking to make a change I think being able to step to my target and getting my target line right is something that I’ve always wanted to work on. (It’s) something that I’m definitely working on this season because I think you can notice my rookie year, I used a lot of my arm. I feel like I’m capable of doing that, but I want to steer away from that as much as I can. I want to use my legs as much as I can to be able to thread balls in there, so that I’m not putting so much stress on my shoulder and my elbow because it’ll help me down the road in terms of shoulder being sore and elbow being sore. That’s kind of where I want to head towards and that’s really what I’m trying to work on this offseason. Jets QB Sam Darnold working hard to improve mechanics, technique (thejetpress.com) Here's another: How NY Jets' Sam Darnold is using the offseason to improve (northjersey.com) I've looked and I can't find it anywhere but in unattributed claims on message boards. I remember reading it too a year ago but the only thing I find is a number of stories about how he was working with private quarterback coach Jordan Palmer in the last two off seasons. Why would he be doing that if he thought he didn't need to change? And why did he need a private quarterback coach at all? Couldn't the Jets find someone to do the job?
So why so many on here are typing “if Fields does the same against Alabama I want him”? Seems kinda ass backwards when the kid has 2 bad games in his career to date ♂️
The question people should be asking is "how is Fields going to do in the NFL?" How he does against Alabama, good or bad, doesn't really apply all that heavily to how he will do in the NFL. If the 2020 Jets played Alabama 16 times they'd probably beat them 8+ games. That's just the difference between college football and the pros. It's the difference between a cohort of kids and a cohort of men. The biggest reason that college stars fail in the pros is that they no longer get to play against other college players. They have to adapt and grow their skills to remain stars at the professional level. So the primary question that any scouting department should be asking about college players is "is that all he's got or can he step up to the next level?"
Watching the game with my dad yesterday, I look at him and say "I like Sam. Seems like a good kid, and seems to handle the NYC noise pretty well, I just wish it would work out"...... immediately throws that pick in the endzone..... "well, that's probably the last pass we see from him..."
I keep reading Sam was inconsistent. The kid started his Jets career throwing an interception on his first pass and appears to have ended it by throwing an interception on his last pass. How much more consistent could he be ?
