So last night the Jets won a huge game in a very gutsy manner in horrible conditions against a Dolphin team that has played well lately (21-0 thumping of the Pats two weeks ago). It was a heart pounding win and the team showed character erasing a 7-3 deficit and a fluke turnover that led to a 10-10 tie. It was a game the Jets won in the 4th quarter bouncing back from adversity. After the game, I was thrilled. What more could you want THIS year, with a new young coach and CS, coming off last year's debacle, with a team predicted to win 4 games, a new OL with two rookies, and a QB playing when nobody thought he would throw another pass in the NFL. So now we stand at 9-6 with only the lowly Raiders standing between the Jets and an improbable playoff berth. And to boot, the Giants are falling apart at the seems. What a day to be a Jet fan! So what do we read on the board today: "Pennington is a below average, noodle arm QB who had a bad game" (I guess the 140 yards passing, 10 points, and 3 for 3 on third on long in the 4th Quarter don't count) (stop listening to the broadcast announcers and WFAN and start thinking for yourselves) The repeated disection of a QB who has done nothing but win since he got here (30-22 and 2 playoff wins) Ferguson got schooled by Taylor (3 tackles and one sack for a guy who I heard all week was going to spend the game in the Jet backfield) The Jets will never win with the RBs and QBs they have. I guess 9-6 is not considered winning. The Jets were lucky that: Lemon played QB (Harrington was tearing it up) The pass on the TD drive was not intercepted (never mind the three or four passes that the Jets could have intercepted, including two by Rhodes, one of which was a sure TD) Leon Washington broke tackles and had YACs (Isn't that what a shifty, fast 3rd down back is supposed to do every now and then?) Why can't Jet fans on this board enjoy this win and realize what this team is on the verge of accomplishing this year, from top to bottom, from what should be a tremendous feel good story in Pennington (the product of hard work and a tremendous attitude in the face of adversity rather than this constant criticism of his arm and the calling for Clemens this year or next) to the great job by the OC is opening up this offense, to the job Mangini has done to outcoach his opponent and to get the most out of this team, to the progress of young players like Mangold, Ferguson, Washington, Smith, Cotchery, etc, to the improved play and aggresiveness of the defense etc. Some people are only happy if they have something to complain about, and that is a shame. But don't rain on my parade. I can't wait to go the game Sunday for what should be an electric, crazy crowd and a rare occasion to see the Jets play a "win and in game. "
couldnt agree more with everything you said. Pennington is a flat out winner, and most importantly, so are the Jets. Walking on air today over here
I may be a Darksider, but I will say this: When you have weather conditions like you had yesterday, you be happy to win ANY way you can, and move on.
also, the ridiculous parrotting that goes on here is absurd. Just b/c an analyst says he thinks chad has a weak arm doesnt make it true. We all watch the games. We've seen him make amazing pinpoint bullet throws, as well as a few bombs each week. He also misses throws, usually in shitty weather or against good Ds. Sorta like every other QB EVER. His winning ways are a gift to this franchise and made this year special
I agree with what you said also. I'm not a complete homer. I realize that Pennington has severe defects as a qb but they don't outweigh his strengths. He's a guy who can simply win and I think the Jets are a better team with him then without him. The fact people are talking bad about his performance in that weather doesn't surprise me considering how many Jets fans I come across that have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. I honestly believe we have one of the dumbest fan bases in all of sports. No offense to the ones who know what they're talking about but it's few and far between.
I have to agree as well. We can whine all we want, but we are 9-6 with a chance to make the playoffs. The expectations were for this to be a 4-12 or 5-11 season. They've been playing well. I am estatic about this team's performance.
Great post. And by great post I mean terrible post. You see, I'm so stupid that occasionally I'll forget what words mean. I also can't really comment much on the Jets game last night because most of my time was spent sticking needles in my Pennington voodoo doll and taking notes from Tony Kornheiser's commentary so I could use them on the board here today. PS - Pennington throws like my daughter
I have to say after watching Eli flounder on Christmas Eve I was happy to have Pennington, who at least has pocket awareness.
I love Penny - that's not to say his noodle arm doesn't concern me in big games. I'm so happy today - great win, etc. No more same old Jets....
Another thing to add is you can't look to much into what these so called analysts say. The NFL is the hardest sport to predict. You are going to listen to a Francessa who will doubt the Jets but aid a month again amidst the Giants 4 game losing streak that they would make the playoffs and get to 9 wins. I will also be there Sunday and cant wait for it. The place is going to be going nuts.
I just hope everyone gets this negativity out of their system by Sunday at about 12:30pm. Like Chad said I want to hear that stadium rocking on Sunday! There is NO reason for people to NOT show up...I'm hearing it already from a guy I work with (a true dark sider who is on the other side of 50) that he can't see why he should go, It's a gimmee win, he wants to stay home keep warm and enjoy New Years Eve (Can you say Pu**y whipped). PEOPLE WE WIN AND WE ARE IN!!!! WAKE THE HELL UP AND LETS GET SOME EXCITEMENT GOING!!! It is a short week, so, granted if you feel backed up with negative thoughts please feel to let it out for the rest of the day. Tomorrow the JEts start the game prep for Sunday how about we start the Pep Rally tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!
It's the nature of (most) Jets fans. They always have to be bitching and moaning about something. What did worry me, though, was the lack of knowledge. Getting on Chad for a few games this season is one thing, but saying he played poorly last night is hillarious. He struggled in horrible conditions, conditions that were worse than what Carson Palmer played in last Sunday, and he wasn't great. When the conditions improved in the 4th quarter, Chad made two phenomenal passes against a great defense (one on 3rd down to Smith, and the TD to Cotchery), and in the end, led us to the victory. But like I said, it's the nature of (most) Jets fans. I would guarantee that half of this board would bitch and moan if the Jets won the SB.
Couldnt of said it better myself. I agree some of the stuff we are endured to read on this board sometimes is just unreal. Can we just enjoy the win? WTF?
If he has tickets and he's not going then he has no excuse to not get those tickets to a Jets fan who WILL go.
Oh shit it looks like I wandered into the weekly "We're so much better than the rest of the board" thread. Continue patting yourselves on the back... Also, I look forward to next week's "The crowd was awful today!" thread.
