Same QB who couldn't beat out Jake Fromm at UGA?

I admittedly never saw Haskins play in college, so that's a fair and accurate comment. What separates Fields from Haskins in your opinion? Genuine question.

As far as I’m concerned going to a new team and staying in the same place but with a new staff isn’t that much different. Might actually be easier to stay where you’re already comfortable.
Sam was a stud coming out too and needed to be groomed but wasn’t. Daboll coming in would just do the same thing he did with Allen day 1. It wouldn’t be that much different, especially considering the young age Sam is at 23. This isn’t a reclamation project as much as it would just be giving him the right voice and tailoring the game around him.

Mediocre QB's winning Super Bowls are outlier events. Nobody is saying it's impossible to win with a mediocre QB, we're just saying that 90% of the teams that have won Super Bowls over the last 20 years have had top QB's. To win without a top QB you basically need to get everything else right - coaching, running game, offensive line, great defense. Very tough to maintain that kind talent across the entire roster.

  6. Trey Lance is the one. He’ll need a yr under the hood & like any other QB will need an offense built to his strengths. But my goodness,He would’ve thrown 10 more TDs if his WRs could run under balls or drop balls in EZ.

The intermediate game is the part he needs to improve upon. But the strengths of his game are very attractive on a macro level;Size/Speed/Athleticism/legit dynamic ball carrying threat, quick release on throws. He is very accurate on deep throws & very good in the RZ.

W his big play ability & efficiency in RZ even if hes NOT great in intermediate game, combined w a good running game & defense could be a formula for great success.

Bro hold up. Jake Fromm was QB1 for years there and they probably thought he was their best chance at a championship.

    They are kicking themselves now

I could see Lance as an option if they keep Darnold and let Trey sit and learn. He's very raw. My advice for him though would be to transfer to a big time program - maybe Wisconsin? - and get more experience, especially against top competition, which will help him improve and also make him a potential #1 pick in 2022.

When you're a young QB on a talent deficient team, throwing to receivers who don't get much separation, the tendency is to try to do too much. We've seen Sam throwing to receivers who are closely covered, we've seen a lot of his throws missed by Jet receivers that would surely have been caught by most NFL caliber receivers and we've seen him miss receivers rather than risk interception. I think Sam has enough talent to be a a very good NFL QB provided he gets him some help at WR and RB. I think the O-line is reasonably good now, especially with Becton and Elflein on the left side. Get a top receiver with the #2 pick and draft Najee Harris with the higher 1st round pick and the Jets would have a pretty good offense. Harris, who is 230 lbs, running behind Becton and Elflein would be almost impossible for most defenses to stop. This would open up opportunities in the passing game.

I was really in favor of Wilson, maybe even over Lawrence, but then found out about his two shoulder issues. While that doesn't rule him out, it does mean that I wouldn't want to use the #2 pick on him, and I think that's what it would take to get him. However if Douglas did that I'd be okay with that, but I doubt he will do that.

After Wilson I don't see anyone at the moment who's worthy of a high 1st round pick, maybe Fields, but only if he really produces in the bowl games, and even then I'd be skeptical because he's from Ohio State and the next time they produce a great pro QB will be the first time. I don't think the Jets can afford to risk such a high pick on a gamble like that.

Jones and Trask are possibilities at the end of the 1st round or early 2nd, but both would have to sit and learn at least a year. That said, both are accurate and show good instincts, although both also are surrounded by great coaching and talent so it's hard to tell how much is them and how much is the rest.

Lance has a LOT of physical attributes but he's only played one season at NDSU which isn't nearly the same competition as major colleges, and further he sat out this year. I would advise him to transfer to a big time program - Wisconsin? - and up his game which would give him more needed experience against tougher competition, and improve his chances of being taken #1 in 2022.

So at this point I'm leaning towards keeping Darnold and hoping a new CS and much improved OL and weapons can help him do what Allen has done, if not even better. If Douglas likes one of the college QBs and wants to take one as insurance that would be fine, but I doubt he does that unless he's decided that Morgan was a wasted pick.

The options should say Fields (and a pick for Darnold), Wilson (and a pick for Darnold) or Darnold+Sewell. With those options, I stick with Sam. Bring in a veteran QB to compete with him. See how James Morgan is doing, and continue to build around the QB postion.

Just QB play alone is tough enough, but when you factor in the draft pick, and having to potentially pay Sam in 2022, it becomes really complicated.

Yikes based on this, Sewell aka future hall of famer must be the best bet

  14. I think he needs to get w an NFL staff & practicing w NFL players ASAP. Yes level of competition isnt great but neither is his surrounding cast based on how many big plays theyve left on field on very good throws. His OL isnt as great as what Wentz had either.

While hes not playing the Buckeyes or LSU hes not playing w those type of talent around him either.

Any colllege staff is gonna use him the same way as NDSU bc they dont need to ask him to do more to win games. But thats what he needs. He needs an NFL Offensive staff to start expanding his game & also NFL level receivers that can run under his deep balls & convert his tight window contested throws.

The more I watch film on these guys the more i'm not sold on them. Fields speed is impressive but he's throwing to wide open WRs and looks like a 1 read then take off type of QB. I don't see a big arm on him either. Wilson has a better arm and can run and has made some throws in traffic but his mechanics are awful. he could get a lot more zip with a better throwing motion. I don't see either of them worth moving on from sam at this point. the bengals look like they will pick 5ish we could trade back with them. they will want sewell bad as will the other teams in from of them. sewell is the hotter commodity then wilson or fields. I think trading down is the move. as much as possible. the top end of this class isn't great for our needs. If we can trade down twice to the 12ish area i'd probably grab pitts. we still have darnold and josh morgan. we'll have a new coach and system. the o-line is solid and i'd love to grab walker little in the late 2nd or 3rd to cement the line more. if we could add allen robinson in FA and go with crowder, mims, pitts and herndon we could have some real weapons. for those who have a short memory this is what sam has done in the NFL

The financial component with Sam makes it tough...Right now Sam looks like a game manager, but he still has room for growth. My concern is he cannot elevate his team when the talent around him isn't as good.

If you have players with potential in the draft to do that then the risk may be worth it.

The other factor to consider is the pick other teams would offer...I feel like Jerry Jones or San Francisco along with few other teams could offer a high pick for a young qb like Sam.

Honestly SF seems like a good option for Sam

He's not a bust, but both parties, Sam and the Jets, need a fresh start.

At this point, any of those options are better than Sam. Sams Oline this year was the best he has had in 3 years and we all saw the major regression. That’s not saying that Fields will be good but more to attest that how bad Sam is and you have the option there with a rookie contract. People thinking Sam will allow or a sudden turn around with high draft pick on a receiver have a curious case of amnesia and conveniently forget of the countless times he has overthrown wide open receivers or flat out didn’t see them the entire year. The majority of Jet fans were the same with Sanchez too but at least Sanchez had big wins under his belt.

I'll disagree with you here. Not that Lance is pinpoint deadly, but Allen was borderline terrible.

First, you can't dismiss the impact that playing behind a terribleOL for two years will have on any QB. Second, the "improved OL this year" really is only true for the past 4 games or so...up until then they were still crap. And when did he get all four planned starting WRs to throw to? About 3-4 weeks ago.

I've always respected your knowledge and opinions, but on this issue I can't understand your logic.
