Agree + Luck was a better conventional NFL prospect. Mahomes found the right system, and has become the new prototype. Kyler Murray never goes #1 without Mahomes...

Lawrence like Luck may be a better “prospect” vs Wilson/Fields but he’s actually further from this new “Mahomes” NFL prototype. You can argue if either Wilson or Fields are closer to that guy too...
Physically (arm, athleticism) Fields is closer imo, when I watch film, Wilson looks to be the guy.

I agree with Dan Orlowski, the system matters just as much (if not more) as the Qb these days...

Truthfully, I love the idea of Lawrence (+ being told how great of a prospect he is) more than I love his tape... I know that’s blasphemous...

The thing about Lawrence is you know he's a good QB. Will be he Mahomes? No idea but you know he won't be Ryan Leaf, he's just too good. Now, we have to roll the dice with our QB who may actually be more of a Ryan leaf. Follow?

    [/QUOTE]

Not saying fields is the answer or that Sam has to go but how many years are we going to say the same thing about him? It's 100% true he doesn't have the help he needs or it seems the proper coaching. But there's no denying Sam does not make players around him better.
True franchise QBs don't need all pro players at every position. In fact a lot of players become stars by playing with a FQB.
You think if Tyreek Hill played with Darnold he'd have the numbers he has with Mahomes? Ppl would view Hill on the level of Robby Anderson if he played here.
Look at Josh Allen he elevates the players around him and shows improvement.
I like Darnold but so far it's no different from Sanchez, Geno, etc. Feels like we have to win in spite of him.

I want nothing to do with either one... trade down at 2 and take Chase/Davonte Smith then take Wilson/Lance with Seattle’s pick. Trade a mid round pick for a vet like Stafford/Ryan and develop Wilson/Lance behind them for 2 years.

Wilson would be gone by the Seattle pick, keep Flacco or get Stafford

Thing is Flacco won’t be able to lead this team for more than a few games.. not only has he battled injuries but I feel he isn’t a starter anymore.. Stafford is still a legit starter and that’s who we need to build a raw QB like Wilson or Lance around.

I'm not bringing a 33 year old QB with injury problems making $30 MM + to a team that is still 2 or 3 years away.

I understand your objections to that, but Stafford could be a very good QB for Wilson or Fields or even Sam to sit behind and learn from for a year or two. For now the Jets have the cap space. He'd at least make the team more competitive too, and that would make the fanbase happier. What do we care what he is paid as long as it doesn't mean that the Jets couldn't pay other players that they wanted to keep or couldn't sign a FA like Godwin/Golladay or Thuney?

Fantastic talent, sure. But if you can't face pressure without crumbling or go through a progression, you'll never make it. Fields has looked bad when he's played reasonably good defenses. He's going to have to ball out in the CFB playoffs to restore people's confidence in him.
He will not have a 5 yard blocking radius and 5-10 yards of receiver separation in the NFL.

He will need to sit for a year at least. I honestly think he should stay in college for another year, but there's no way in hell that's happening.

as I’ve had more time to evaluate -
2 things I don’t like about Fields - very few 300 yard games, wasn’t asked to throw the ball that much in college - 550 passing attempts, Lawrence well over 1k attempts - guys like Wilson and Trask have 800 attempts...

he’s an elite athlete for sure with a super high ceiling, but I think he lacks polish as a passer + will need some development, which makes me nervous.

So I assume your impression Is that every good defense Ohio State has played, since Fields took over as QB, he's played poorly?

I question how you calculated that opinion? Or do you think that Indiana and NorthWestern are the only good defenses OSU have faced In the last two years?

He hasn't looked nearly as bad as people want to try to make him look. Has he played down from the amazing things he generally does on the football field In a couple games. Yes. Does that mean he Is some crazy raw talent coming out though? I don't think so.

If you think he doesn't go through his reads and doesn't fit the ball into tight windows, you would be mistaken without a doubt. That's just not accurate.

I do agree that the playoffs will be a big spot for him though. I don't think he needs to "restore" people's confidence In him, but I do think he needs to show he belongs on a big stage like the playoffs will offer him.

If they find a way to beat Clemson and Alabama. That's even bigger. Although I am biased on that last statement obviously. The rest Is from an unbiased perspective though. For what It's worth.

Huh? You do realize last year that TL only had 392yds more than Fields, with one more game played than, Fields?

Fields had more TD's, less INT's, a better Completion %, a better YPA, and better QBR in 2019.

OSU has only played 6 games this year due to Covid.

I'm not sure what you are getting at...

Well, let him be fantastic on another team. Ohio State QB sucks royally in the NFL You probably thinking oh our version of Lamar Jackson. Who is the last Big Ten QB that has been successful in the NFL. Better yet the last one that was even decent for the Jets.

Hard to take your post as unbiased when your picture is Ohio State. Douglas is not drafting this dude. Ok who's up next?

14 games last year he had just 3 games for over 300 yards (including the bowl game 1 td - 2 ints). He threw 25 times or less in most games meaning is only being asked to manage games not carry the team.

This year 2020 in games where he threw over 25 times, he has 6 tds and 5 ints...

I mean, I'm speaking solely on this season. He's played 2 ranked teams and sucked royally in those games. The teams he beat up on are a combined 12-21 on the year. I've watched plenty of Ohio State. I'm not saying Fields isn't supremely talented--he obviously is, but I question his pro-readiness completely. He holds the ball very long and has benefitted from having a very talented team around him. He'll need to either stay in school or sit.

I don't know which games you're watching in which he is going through a progression.

Well he'd be better than getting Prescott. But he'd be more expensive than Darnold and is he really any better? IDK.

Yes, he's light years better than Darnold. He's more accurate, can read Ds better and has a better arm. I saw a stat the other day that in their first 160 games or something like that, Stafford has almost 1,000 more yards than Aaron Rodgers.
