I recall when Mehta replaced Cimini. People said he has to be a big improvement. Now we celebrate again. What surprise will we get from the DN this time?
Honestly I thought he had been shelved already the last couple weeks. Maybe this was just a suspension until they finally decided to shitcan him.
Maybe my memory is faulty but when Manish first started wasn’t he a “good guy” reporter who was mostly positive about the Jets? It was over time he turned into the psycho bad guy reporter.
He was a good guy in the first two Rex years when being a bad guy would have been a really bad career move. As soon as the Jets started to stagnate he began the differentiation into a muckraker, first legitimately through his relationship with Pettine and then just whacko stuff off of undisclosed sources. His stuff became more and more unhinged over the years as he realized how reactive the NY/NJ media market is and that basically anything he wrote would go ping-ping-ping around the market gaining traction as people either bought in or sold off on his latest thing.
I don't know what happened to him. He was doing a good job with the JETS STREAM special section of the NYDN when Cimini held the beat job. I don't know what is going on with the NYDN as it is a shell of its former self. Was at a bar with about 15 NYDN ex-reporters and it was really sad.
Saw this in PFT's write-up of the news: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...ly-withdraws-manish-mehta-from-the-jets-beat/
And here, and here, and there, and over there...pretty much wherever he's standing and moving his lips (or using a keyboard).
So the NYDN must follow the Jets operational procedures when it comes to identifying and getting rid of poor performers. How many years was Mehta allowed to continue his bullshit there? But hey! At least the NYDN fired him before the end of the season!
Jets banned him, whats the point of keeping him if the guy was so shit and toxic he got banned from covering the team
