We have to take a QB even with #2. Fields is still a top prospect that we would have to take if we end up #2. At this point though, after so many years of suffering, after enduring Gase after it was clear to all but Johnson how atrocious he is, trading away best player, busting out on Sam... We've got to get that #1 overall and Lawrence, we just have to.
Agree 100%, we have to get the #1 pick. Lawrence would be the first time the Jets have ever gotten "the guy". I fear Fields will be one of those guys we talk ourselves into because we're so desperate for a QB only to have him turn out like Sanchez/Geno/Darnold.
I swear - and I say this with no sarcasm - this year has been the most tense, entertaining Jets season since we were in the playoffs with Rex. I felt like we won the Super Bowl when Folk kicked that FG to have the Pats beat us. It feels like the franchise's next decade is at stake during every game. I'm kind of going to miss it next year tbh.
So say Lawrence loses to Notre Dame and they do not make the playoffs and Fields makes a great run and Ohio State wins it all does that change who we draft at 1. I doubt it happens but it could.
Joe Douglas has been pretty spot on as GM, but I would love him even more right now if he would release Frank Gore. Just tell everyone that we released him so he can sign with a playoff contender for his last year. That would help with the tank as well--he seems to be one of the few players still trying on the offense.
Don't think that would change anything even if it did happen. Lawrence has too extensive a resume already.
If Lawrence looks like Choke City and Fields kicks ass in the 2 games to a Championship, then the #1 overall vote in polls will go from about 95% Trevor 5% Fields....to 75% Trevor and 25% Fields, or something like that. Stephen A. Smith will mumble something about "white privilege" but just ignore him.
I think it'd be worth a look. But the problem is that Fields isn't going to play many more games this year and only has one full season of tape. Lawrence will have at least 9 games this year, and 30 over the past two years. If Douglas determines Fields is the better player he should take him though. I just think it'd be hard to make that call. Lawrence's performance vs. Notre Dame is important though. That defense has a bunch of dogs on the squad.
Notre Dame vs. Clemson will be December 19th as long as Clemson takes care of Virginia Tech this weekend (they will). Notre Dame is already locked in to the ACC Championship game. The college football playoff is January 1st and CFB Championship is January 11th.
Giants got James Bradberry and Logan Ryan, Jets got Quincy Wilson and Pierre Desir and cut them both....same old Jets
Fields looked sloppy against Indiana. But he normally plays controlled and accurate so it was a fluke. He didn't look big enough to be an NFL QB to me but then again you got small QBs like Murray and Wilson thriving so maybe the game has changed.
the jets better not be in this to take fields at 2. its Lawrence or bust. we are about to close the book on a #3 pick at QB, this franchise cannot afford to take anything less than a #1 QB pick.
that makes things easy for the jets. IMO there is a small argument to trade the #1 pick regardless of what lawrence wants. Build your team and plug in the QB at the next opportune time. know that's not the popular idea but it has to be a thought moving forward.
