I really wished this wasn't so, and yes Darnold has had to deal with a lot of adversity and a shit line and poor weapons for a lot of this... But really the kid doesn't have the tools, the passion, or the intellect to play in the NFL. He can't make the proper adjustments at the line, he doesn't SEE the field properly and things develop very slowly for him. He flat out misses receiver who are open. When he sees them...his throws are hit or miss. He (like the mentally slow sanchez) also has no feel for the rush. No idea when to tuck it away and go and no clue when he needs to hurry. Everything is California cool and slow and "yea just want to have some fun" well fuck you California beach fun Sam. His mechanics are awful, he throws a ton of should be intercepted balls every game It's been a lot of adversity yes but Sam hasn't grown one iota. Nothing has improved regarding his game
I couldn't agree more, he doest have the "it" factor to be a franchise qb. Too many jekyll and Hyde throws, poor footwork. Buttt, the Darnold fanboys will be out of the woodwork soon to say its his first game with all 3 starting receivers.
some of this is true and some of it isn’t. We may have a decent idea of the QB Sam is but let’s not make him to be complete shit...he’s likely not the franchise QB we thought years ago though.
Honestly Morgan should play the rest of the year Flacco has proven he is far better than Dumbold. There is nothing more to see with Sam. Zilch. Nothing. Like with Sanchez, like with Geno...it's over. Next year Darnold will begin his decade long journey as meaningless backup/3rd stringer
but he's literally the worst in the league. I think since entering the league he is ranked like 32nd.
I wanted to believe all the experts about Darnold when he was coming out, despite having watched him for his time at USC and believing he was a product of the talent around him. It doesn’t please me to seem to have been right, but it’s pretty obvious my opinion of him was correct.
Another troubling defect of Darnold is a lack or intensity. No leadership. No ability to grab a teams attention, to play for pride, to inspire. You'll hear this when he's gone from guys but Darnold is not a field general in any way
He showed promise. He hasn't been the same since the "ghosts" game. What not having a OL did to David Carr physically has done to Darnold mentally.
This is what it’s like having a college QB play on an NFL team. Sam hasn’t done anything to get better and the coaching staff hasn’t either.
Unfortunately, it's gotten to a point where Sam needs to perform these remaining games or nobody is trading for him. Maybe we can get a 6th or lower at this point if he didn't have more awful games. He's regressed this year, a lot. There hasnt been 1 game where he was really dominant so this year. Gase has a lot to do with that being the worst playcaller I've ever seen, but Sam is making it worse at times.
Sam is what he is at this point. What we do not know is it from an inability to learn or more an inability of the coaching staff to teach. While I would feel confident in saying it is a combination of both, I would wager more of it is the coaching staffs inability to teach.
Sam had potential. A lot of it. We all seen it, don't pretend like he's always been this bad. That's just not true. Sam has been ruined. I had a strong feeling this would happen when our moronic ownership hired, Gase. As another poster alluded to, Darnold just hasn't been the same since he was seeing ghosts against the Patriots. It's important to have competence when developing a kid with potential. The NFL has shown that over and over again. Feels bad. Fuck these dumb fuck owners.
I will say this, as someone whos taught hundreds of others how to be a primary care provider, one thing ive learned is sometimes no matter how smart or talented someone appears previous, you cant teach them beyond that. Some people are just like that. They can be nice, flexible and willing, but they just dont learn. In fact i have a student like that now. She says all the right things, has the proper diagnosis in her head but still doesnt execute.
I am a school teacher and have taught over a thousand, I understand. But unless the coaching staff in studying film, is specifically coaching if you see this look, this happening so do this. It just is not going to happen. Some may be more apt to figure it out on their own than others, but the vast majority are going to need some help along the way.
