He may have the ear of the Johnsons, but Gase obviously does as well, or at least has had their ear. For whatever reason, the Johnsons don't believe in firing during a season. Douglas either has no control or say in this or he is hoping for the #1 pick. The only other rational reason would be that Gase has compromising pictures or information on Douglas. Douglas isn't going to risk his reputation and/or his career on Gase. He never would have become so highly respected and recommended if he was that stupid.
I think saying that VanRotten is having a great season is a gross overstatement. I'm glad that he improved this past Sunday, but the Cardinals aren't very good. We'll see if it continues. He may have only given up one sack, but he's given up a ton of pressures and hits.
Outside of the Cardinals game, Van Roten has been bad. I'm not going to pretend like I didn't like the signing, because I did, but he has not been good at all. Prior to last game, but still, this is why OL grades don't always tell the entire story:
I was going to say great post initially, but you went awry in your third paragraph. Douglas was billed as a great communicator with others in personnel, the CS, scouts, etc. This is probably the first time he's ever had to deal with players directly regarding contracts, injuries, etc. He probably has made some mistakes, but I have to believe that he will correct those going forward. If not, that will be a problem and a concern. I think you are mistaken saying that JD is "helping Gase fulfill his grudge against Mac by getting rid of Mac players." I'm sorry, but that's patently absurd. Why should Douglas have a grudge against Mac? If Mac wasn't so incompetent and bad at his job, Douglas wouldn't be a GM right now, or at least wouldn't be the GM of the Jets. He got rid of Bell for a couple of reasons: Bells actions on Twitter which the local and national media had picked up on and were making a stink about, and because Bell had a bonus due on Thursday, and if he got seriously injured, the Jets would be on the hook for his cap hit next year. The latter reason is the most important. It had nothing to do with Mac. Cannon offered nothing on offense. Taking a valuable roster spot for a player that can only contribute as a gunner is a luxury only a great team can afford. Gase may not have wanted him or been willing to use him. If so, then that is justification for releasing him, as the GM has to support the HC. It's not like Cannon was some all-time great gunner. The Jets have other speedy players. It's Boyer's job to develop those players into quality gunners. Since he hasn't, then he obviously isn't the STs coach that some of you think he is.
You realise the post you quoted was a series of posts on a mythical scenario on how JD could influence the sacking of Gase and not my actual thoughts, I did clarify this in another post
I didn't see that fact until later. I respond as I'm reading through a thread. My memory is too short to read through the entire thread and then remember which posts I want to respond to. Plus, that would take a lot more time.
Not sure why you have quoted and replied to the two post on this subject in this way tbh. My post was only a possible scenario where JD could have an influence on getting Gase sacked when t Falco21 said he couldn't see why people expected JD to sack Gase. I even say in the post you quoted, "I am not down on JD, just answering your post with a possible scenario or two "
We did. Parcells traded it, when we could have taken HOF tackle Pace! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agree completely. I’m guessing CJ might not have ignored JD, but pushed the firing to year end. Unless CJ separates himself from the decision process, and goes on record to that fact, JD will have a hell of a time attracting the right HC. Non withstanding some of the JD haters here, I strongly believe JD is well respected across the league and many would be eager to help fix this mess if he was truly in charge. The Bell and Adams debacle were precipitated far more by Gase and his inability to empower the players. Instead of alienating them. They wanted out bad. My big fear is how many more will we be forced to loose because of Gase?
No, Bell being released was not because of Gase. Gore getting 20 carries on Sunday in Miami? That will be on Gase.
Laying out the whole offseason proves nothing. And Yes after one yr we STILL have the worst offensive talent by FAR. I want him fired NOW!!!
i was high on JD but right now i'm pretty iffy on him. letting robby walk was an awful decision. cutting bell is dumb too when we already have a ton of cap space and lack of weapons for sam. signing gore and ballage was dumb. the draft class has been unimpressive as a whole outside of becton. It's a GMs job to build a talented roster and a coaches job to get the most out of the roster. right now our coach and GM are both failing.
They had the No.1 pick the next year as well because Kotite somehow made the worst team in the league in 1995 even worse in 1996. The Peyton Manning fiasco convinced them to trade out of the No.1 spot. And yes, of course we need All-Pros as well, but we need a lot of pros... and they are easier to find. For every other team in the league, anyway...
LOL. Add to that the most horrifying comment ever made. Direct quote from Gase “ Chris Johnson is my biggest supporter”
I think you have the years mixed up, Peyton opted to stay in college the yr we traded down. And ironically we passed on HOF left tackle. Moving down turned out to be miserable move. As no assets from the move ever made impact. In hindsight should have taken Pace! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
At this point you can't say trading down to get Mims and more picks has translated to anything good. Maybe in the future we'll look back and say it was a genius move but right now TODAY players that we could have drafted in the 2nd round are producing for their teams while Mims and the other picks have yet to either play in a game or contribute meaningfully.
