You do realize on the play where Sam got hurt, he had a guy wide open in front of him. Another one he fumbled over his own feet and sacked himself. Half of these sacks are on the Qb. Sabo literally shows you multiple videos of terrible QBs play where guys are open and the best you come up with is challenging Sabo to play QB? You Sam homers have hit a new low of complete denial.
He threw two balls on the final drive that should've/could've been picked. A deep out to Jeff Smith and the slant to Hogan (that Buck and Aikman tried to cover for him as if the DB made some amazing play). He overthrew Hogan on a basic wide open slant by 3 yards and threw what should've been a pick 6 to Smith on the sidelines. That's not the coaches fault.
You are right..but so is Vilma I am down from 100per cent backing SD to 30% Gase did a terrible job Coaching a 21 year old that bounced right into the NFL Its a mess..but half of it may be squarely on Darnolds lack of talent ....and boy does that suck saying
I am not a homer... I am not making excuses. The kid is shelled shocked (PSDT) from getting hammered... His confidence is shot...look at his body language and his facial expressions. That is a fact... IMHO he should be benched during the Indy Game... I have asked this question before... when have you or others seen anyone come to him to review the defense on an IPAD or discuss how he is playing? Most of the time he comes off the field and sits on the bench by himself and no one approaches him... WTF do you expect. These are facts and why Sabo is accurate you can not just say he suck without looking at everything. OK. You know what they say about assumptions right, maybe instead of calling someone a homer, you should figure out how the persons feels about the team in general. How many letters have you or others sent to JC and JD? besides this forum have you and or others voiced complaints with the team? The only homer I am is for the Jets and that is after 53 years watching mostly shit teams.
I think the Colts are in almost the same boat as New Orleans. Why would they not be an option? I don't think the Colts backup situation (Brissett/Eason) is any better than New Orleans' (Winston/Hill). Your opinion of those guys may be higher than mine, though.
Yeah, I tend to agree with you. Knowing the Jets luck will win just enought games to miss out on the Lawrence sweeptstakes. I think the Jets need to get some fire power for him. The concerning part about Darnold is that he doesn't handle zone defenses well and looks like a deer in headlights. Maybe with a new coach in the Andy Reid mode he will come around.
Let's see how Aaron Rodgers plays tonight without his top two receivers, starting tightend and his left guard and right tackle banged up. He is playing with one receiver that has ONE catch this year (Valdez-Scantling). His #2 receiver has a grand total of one career catch as an UDFA. Both of Matt Ryan's top targets are game time decisions. Does anyone think they're going to each score one offensive touchdown?
I actually like Winston going to either Denver or Indianapolis next year. But - you're right from a situational perspective. I just don't see the Colts making that sort of move. I mention the Saints because they traded for Bridgewater and signed Winston this year. The writings sort of on the wall that they're cautiously exploring options to take over for Brees. That team is going to soon fall apart by way of cap casualties too. They're going to be in cap hell sooner than later with all the big contracts they've dished out (Thomas, Kamara) and they still have to re-sign Ramczyk. I can't see them wanting to take the Darnold risk. The Colts might. They have tons of cap space and not many big time free agents to re-sign. They could also want to take one more shot with a proven QB (if not Rivers) because their roster is Super Bowl ready. It's deep and talented.
I get your point but MVS has 20+ catches on the year. Not sure if you’re confusing him for someone else or not. I do agree with you though.. they’re definitely going to score 20+
My bad. MVS has 8 catches this year. Darius Shepherd has one career catch and Malik Taylor is an UDFA who has played 20 career snaps (this year).
There best receiver tonight is going to be Aaron Jones anyways. They won’t miss a beat with all of those guys out.
My current opinion is that Sam is not the answer for the NY Jets BUT that w the right change of scenery he could still be a top half ranked starting QB in this league. Hes missing wide open throws, hes not reading defenses & his footwork continues to be a disaster. Still, i think alot of it is his overall approach & not figuring out his identity. That falls on the coach. He needs someone to help get the footwork figured out & decide what his “game” is gonna be. Gase literally said last week to the media that he wont know what the team’s identity is until injured players get back. Hows that helping a young QB trying to round out his game? Spoiler:Its not. Now theres no excuse for missing wide open throws & not putting up points, but goodness gracious can we acknowledge that the surrounding cast is worst in the league AT FULL STRENGTH? Its fun to think a Qb can do it all on his own..but geez louis.. this offensive roster is a CRIME
"A guy like Darnold" is the key descriptive here. You have less regard for his talent than I and others. We shall see. I don't think the Jets will be have the #1 pick anyway.
He has three years of game tape out there dude and 30 starts. By year end he'll add at least another 10 starts and be at 40 career starts. You're not trading for talent at that point. You're trading for what the tape shows.
I'm not sure how well this will be received, nor can I defend what I'm about to say as who the hell knows...BUT, I think w/ the right coach/coaching for Sam and if we trust JD to draft well (and I do) the Jets would probably be better off pillaging some team in a trade for Lawrence should the Jets get the #1 pick, vs drafting Lawrence themselves. That's not to say I think Sam is better than Lawrence, but I think w/ Sam already in the fold that our best chance to turn this franchise into a winner is to commit felony larceny against some team w/out any remotely legit QB and use that to build the talent base everywhere. Call it a gut feeling or call it a feeling that Sam can/will be better w/ better coaching and instead of cutting ties with him and watch him reach his ceiling elsewhere, let's bring that better coaching here and jump on all of the picks. By the end of the season I may be a total hypocrite and be salivating for Lawrence, but I think that it's the Jets organization that's the real problem not Sam and already can see him flourishing outside of this org and we'll be stewing over it. If Josh Allen can be fixed with coaching and turned into an MVP candidate, Sam (by all accounts the better QB prospect) can be fixed with coaching...
When considering whether to Keep Sam onboard IF we were to draft Lawrence, Fields or other is that Sam's cap hit is $10M and he's not adding any value other then as a 'shock absorber' or Bridge to starting the rookie. He's not going to be, nor do I suspect we want him to be the guy whispering in the Rookies ear, adding value in the QB room or acting as any kind of mentor. You could pick up a grizzled vet in the mode of Dalton or Fitzpatrick who you could certainly bring in for cheaper and offer them a 5-6 game window to showcase themselves as worthy of starting at some other place.
You, and all the other Darnold bashers, completely ignore the cumulative effect of poor OL and Talent and playcalling. You don't play 30+ games in those conditions and then one game the OL blocks a little bettter, and the receivers get open occasionally, and a "switch" clicks on and the QB simply makes those plays as if the overwhelming times these things didn't happen had no carryover effect. Whatever.
