Other teams use that model successfully because they have knowledgeable owners and hired competent men to run their teams.

Yes, the johnsons could hire an equally incompetent man to run the football operation, but at least we'd have some chance, albeit small, of their getting it right. They seem to have gotten the Douglas hire right. As it is, unless they allow Douglas to run things, there is NO hope.

Who the hell has ever said he doesn’t deserve any blame? Nobody.

Sure, he wasn’t trying to build the worst team in the league even though he likely didn’t expect the moves he had made to make them instantly Super Bowl contenders.

but that doesn’t mean what he has done isn’t a foundation that a championship team is eventually built off of. The reality is the worst place this team could be is over achieving. no rational argument against what he’s done can be made until we see the totality of his strategy play out and fail.

Well, looks like the decision not to sign Anderson, our home grown WR, not a good one. After 4 weeks, looks like CAR got a steal! And we get 0 comp for him. I think he had 100 yds game again, must be in top of league in receptions and yardage! With the pathetic WR corps we have, should have been no brainer to sign him considering he wanted to be here! Too early to tell on the draft, but JD whiffed on that one. Considering we have lots of cap room.

It's the people, not the structure.

If we had a HC that could actually use Robby properly I'd agree, but we don't. In HINDSIGHT it looks like letting him leave was a mistake, but at the time there was good reason to believe that his production would be replaceable. But any way you cut it, no Anderson doesn't make this team as bad as it is.

What it does look like is that he was misused while he was here, and that goes back to bad coaching. Until we get good coaching, we could have All Pros at every position and still suck.

or, hire a President of FOOTBALL OPERATIONS who then hires the GM, who then hires the HC.

Imagine what that would feel like yo have an organization like this?

I've been calling for this approach for YEARS, but to no avail. Of course, as others have already said, the Johnson Clowns would still be the ones who hire that guy.

It is literally Joe Douglas's job to evaluate players without having the benefit of hindsight. If he can't get that right, he needs to be sent packing right along with Gase.

Lets see what has he accomplished:
    · Drafted what looks like a franchise LT for the next decade (barring injuries). Good selection.. if he stays healthy.
    · Got a potential #2 receiver in Denzel Mims in the second round - Hasn't played in one game, jury still out but not looking good.
    · Traded a disgruntled free safety, and turned him into 2 first round draft picks and a 3rd round pick over the next two drafts. Excellent ....
    · Traded Leonard Williams for a 3rd round pick last year (which we used on Ashtyn Davis - who has an injury history and has yet to make any impact.... not good.
    · Signed multiple guys to 1 year "see what you can do" type deal - how's that working out for us?
    · Rebuilt the entire OL. 5 new starters, including said franchise LT and (upon early returns) a decent RT in George Fant. He also drafted a solid G in Cameron Clark. Is this unit perfect? No, but not bad considering they are all brand new parts. lets see his new and improved OL graded out worst OL week 1. Weeks 2 and 3 was not much better and well 4 was a disaster, 6 sacks and 10 QB hits w/ Sam running for his life on just about every drop back. Also, take out Sam's run and the Jets averaged 2.5 yards per carry Thursday. That is not better then last season. Frankly, I thought I was watching last years OL for C sake. Not good after 4 games and how many practice's?

    * When I recall, Mr. Douglas statements about building a winning culture I think about all the press disclosures pre-draft about his staff meeting the coaching staff to create a concept of the type of players they want and need to be successful. Sounds great.... BUT when I look at the current state of this team and its composition, I see an uninspired, undisciplined and uncompetitive team that probably ranks 32 in all O and maybe D stats (haven't bother to look, sorry) and W-L record of 7-13 .

Now maybe I expect to much but IMHO the culture this current admin is building, is one of losing. Frankly, its not even mediocre because to be mediocre you have to at least be competitive and as of this writing they are not.

Of course everything that has happened this year with all the new moving parts, COVID impact has hurt this team but absolve JD regarding this teams composition is factually incorrect.

Finally, to borrow Parcell's grocery analogy, JD got the groceries but they aren't that good...

One more, signed perriman instead of signing Anderson, grade on that move is F so far. He knew perriman had injury problems...

Agree 100%. But those tearing him apart right now, for the most part, are using hindsight to support their claim that they know better. If we continue to have poor talent, then yes, Douglas should be fired, but so far I agree with most of the moves he's made, and it's the injuries and shitty coaching that are the much bigger impact.

yeah...I’m in on JD, but this one move I don’t understand and I don’t like. I get rebuilding, but at some point, you have to sign SOME guys....you can’t ALWAYS be letting people go. I would’ve signed Robby...it wasn’t crazy huge dollars....

maybe JD really did want to tank this year...tough schedule, trading for draft picks, mostly one year deals...I think he knew this roster would be turned over.

    but I would’ve signed him...he’s a good #3/#2 type

Keep in mind that Douglas had good reason to believe that he didn't need another WR like Anderson, at least at the price he was going to have to pay him.

Well he turned out to be wrong about that. Only thing I could think of he did not overly like Anderson in the building. Since he had couple of issues...

Anyone who's saying that he personally could have done a better job than Douglas is using hindsight. But Douglas should rightfully be held to a much higher standard than TGG posters. Anyway, it's too soon to give Douglas a fair evaluation, but right now, I'd give him a preliminary grade of D, and if we have the opportunity to give a top coach full control, we should get rid of Douglas.

How can you give him a D? He's only been here a year and most of his first draft class is injured. If anything, he should get an incomplete score. He got a nice haul for Leonard Williams. A huge deal for a disgruntled safety in Jamal Adams. He has set up plenty of cap space for 2021 after players he didn't sign come off the books. He is just starting to set things up. He signed a 6 year deal for a reason. People point out not signing Robby, but we really have not even seen what Perriman is able to do yet. Mims either. So hard to blame him on that one. The o-line still seems bad, but it is a completely new group with no off-season to gel. I think Douglas has done a great job so far, considering what he has inherited.

Chris Johnson led the HC search , not Mac. Remember he began reaching out to candidates and agents before Bowles was even fired.
