I'm not really sure you can call Sam a "bright spot" yesterday. That run was nice, yes. Very nice. He also threw for 0 TD's, 55% completion percentage and 230 yards with 5.5 YPA. Those are not good passing numbers in the modern NFL. Not at all.
Guys - Sam has "moments" that is it. its 3 years of some "moments and then inconsistent below average play mixed in with the complete meltdowns he will have. So he will be a complete QB and fixed in year 5? when he is 30 mil a year player? im good, ive seen enough. Your in denial if you dont see this. This is worse then Mitch trubisky
True, those numbers are not good, but if you're not factoring in the play calls that produce them, and the lack of talent that holds them down, you're being biased.
Time for a quick slant, maybe! Yeah, I agree with that. Hopefully the next coach can help him. He was a bright spot because he looked like an NFL QB despite being on a terrible team with a terrible head coach. No doubt his numbers are not good. He is though. I liked the way he carried himself and handled himself. Sometimes you can see when a QB looks lost. That is not Sam. He is just in a bad situation. Actually, bad is an understatement.
Look at literally all his stats. If you take his entire career, he's below league average in: Completion % Yards per game Yards per attempt TD's thrown INT's thrown He grades poorly in almost every single relevant stat for a QB. You're denying reality if you think Sam is a good QB. Stop mixing up what you want to be true with what is actually true.
I'm not being biased at all. I've seen every game Sam has played going back to USC. I also know the difference between poor play calling and mistakes by Sam. Our play calling is not good but there are plenty of plays every single game that are solely Sam's fault. I might be able to get over his high turnover numbers if he was a 350 yards/3 TD's per game guy, but he's not. He's a low upside high downside QB. All of the stats from his entire career back this up. It's not biased at all. I want him to be good, that's my bias, but he's just not.
this is facts, every other jet qb got killed for playing bad. Every non jet fan sees this but for some reason. This fan base is treating a 3rd year QB like a fucking baby.
Our fans have this weird blind loyalty thing to players we draft highly. Nobody here dislikes Sam guys. We all WANT him to succeed and like him as a person. But we also need to objectively look at his play if we want what's best for the team. He's just not a good QB by modern NFL standards. He turns the ball over far too often and doesn't even put up huge yardage/TD numbers to make up for it. Also don't give me the "durrrr he has no surrounding talent!" line. He had plenty of surrounding talent at USC and still committed tons of turnovers. It's who he is. Committing as many turnovers as he does is a death sentence for your team.
One of my favorite QB analogies was described by Daniel Jeremiah, one of my favorite analysts and former scout for the Ravens: A QB is either a "truck" or a "trailer"- Trailers are those that are effective, but need support and scheme around them to be successful (i.e. Derek Carr, Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott, Tony Romo, Ryan Tannehill, Jared Goff, Matt Ryan) some examples Trucks are those that transcend ideal support systems, they have the ability and talent to carry a team (i.e. Russel Wilson, Mahomes, Lamar Jackson perhaps, Brett Favre, A-Rod, Brees) a lot less examples in history of these types of course. We can debate which players fall in and out of these two categories. Tom Brady is one of the hot button ones. Point is this, if you have a '"trailer" type of QB, which we could all agree Sam Darnold is at this point, then you go get your truck if you have the chance. By all accounts, Lawrence is the safest prospect to have that potential since Luck. My argument is less that Sam wont have a good career, but more that this franchise is the type that needs a transcendent QB, someone who will have the special talent to make up for our lack of development, fan enthusiasm and incompetent ownership. A GREAT QB can do that for a franchise, you never pass it up.
Absolutely agree. Lawrence is the most promising prospect since Luck. We absolutely cannot pass up the opportunity to get him. If we have to go 0-16 so be it.
The one thing I hate in these kinds of threads it is the one guy who feels the need to state his opinion over and over again, it isn't required we understood from post 1 and by the 10th post, it starts to get peoples backs up.
Could be worse. A certain someone who needed to write 10+ paragraph posts to make his point. And kept doing it until the mods finally had enough.
Explain to me the difference e between excuses and reasons. Like Steve smith said last nite. You are asking him to take a test with an unsharpened pencil
Darnold will be on another team next year I think they should play up this shoulder injury and sit him for awhile so his trade value doesn't get worse
GARDNER MINSHEW IS BETTER THEN SAM DARNOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and a better coach. he'd be a disaster right now on the jets. Sam isn't the issue. if JD is smart he'd get a new coaching staff and use all those picks to load up on offense around sam and bring in some good vets. we really need a RG. van roten is awful. too bad we didn't keep osemele he is beasting for KC. could have been our LG and lewis as RG we would be way better off. fant is just decent. becton is a monster the o-line can be good when healthy with 1 more player. we really need some WRs and TEs that aren't scrubs. why don't we use wesco more then griffin? we have 5 picks in the top 3 rounds and ours should be high )top 5) in each round. we pissed away 6 mil on perriman when for 4 mil more we could have kept robby. we have 72 mil to spend in the off season less about 12 for rookies so 60 mil. we can also save another 13.5 mil form cutting anderson, griffin, and van roten. we should be able to compete in 2022 if JD plays this right and drafts well.
Why cause same was drafted #3 overall ? Marcus Mariota was drafted #2 and is a backup. In Fact the inconsistency is very similar to Sam
