In addition to Ogletree, the Jets brought in former Cardinals fourth-round pick Hakeem Butler, a wide receiver from Iowa State who spent his entire rookie season on the IR after breaking his hand during training camp.
My guess is he was struggling catching the ball & maybe grasping the scheme. He showed some lack of football IQ on his college tape. Sometimes a change of scenery is all that is needed to cure the dropsies..a QB w the kind of ball placement & touch like Sam has can cure alot of things too. Hes got some natural rebound ability w good movement skillls at 6”4.Teach him 3 routes & see what he has.Fits really well w the whole Mims/Perriman prototype
Used to. I love trolling the shit out of my Giants fan friends but when they find him a few years ago I actually couldn’t help but applaud the move. He used to be fantastic in coverage if I remember correctly as well as being a solid traditional run stopping linebacker but he seemingly fell off a cliff this past year.
Ogletree wasn't bad at all last year. Problem was he had a high salary and was injured and couldn't stay on field
I'll pass on Butler. Drop issues, route running issues, can't even get separation against small DB's in press coverage. Hell, the Cardinals almost dropped him in his first year he was so bad. Only reason he last that long on the team was because he was placed on the IR and they didn't have to use a roster spot on him.
At least they're leaving no stone unturned. Hopefully one or both of 'em impress and are able to make a positive contribution to the team
We signed Ogletree to the practice squad, did not sign Butler. Moved Moncrief to the practice squad IR, which I don’t even know what that is, and signed another wide receiver that I’ve never heard of in my life.
Just saw that he's also 6'5" but with one career catch I feel like he's a special teamer at best. Butler really must have some issues either with his hands or with his head. I really believe in Cager and he's a great complement to Perriman, Crowder and Mims so I think I'm fine with focusing on his development unless we're adding a legitimate starting WR to the corps (which we should be doing, like Sanu).
He played under Williams on the Rams. He's been a solid player his whole career. Led the league in interception touchdowns in 2018 with the Giants. Must be something wrong with him to only be a practice squad player at 29. But I do like that we signed him. He always seemed like a decent cover ILB.
I disagree regarding Sanu. He's 30 years old and has never been that good, and if I remember correctly, he has had some character issues/problems in the past. I don't think he's a match for the type of player that JD wants on the team. I think he puts that over need at a position. I have a feeling that may be the issue with Butler as well. Other than one or two posters here who didn't include any links or quotes claiming that Butler has bad hands, I've seen nothing elsewhere to support that. I've googled him and looked at a number of other Jets' sites and Twitter, and have seen nothing to suggest that his hands are the problem. They could be, but it's puzzling to me why I haven't run across that somewhere.
