Mina Kimes, NFL writer: "Denzel Mims will lead all rookie receivers in touchdowns. I don't think Mims was one of the three most talented receivers in the class, but with his body control, catch radius and athleticism, I was surprised to see him slip deep into the second round. I could see him becoming a target monster in the New York Jets' offense, where he won't have to compete with a true No. 1 for Sam Darnold's attention in the red zone."
I have the same reservations watching his highlight tape. He always seems to have his arm behind him pushing off on the DB just b4 going up for the ball. That being said, I heard this morning the they're thinking about not bringing back the PI challange/review for 2020. It was too much of a nightmare last season. Sooo....Mims might get away with that technique a lot more now!
JD's trade down was really impressive. A lot of fans were shocked Mims was still there at 48, and for JD to walk away and wait for 59 was pretty ballsy. Either way, it worked out! JD having a 'short list' of players he'd be comfortable taking at 59 (versus 48) was amazing and allowed him to trade down and gather additional fire power. JD traded the xtra pick he got for trading down (101/3rd) to NE for 2 picks in the 4th: James Morgan, QB and Cameron Clark, OT. That's two really good players added to our roster thanks to JD's trade down. Feels good to have a GM with balls AND brains! Who do you think JD had on his short list when he was on the clock at 48 in the 2nd round? Maybe.... 1) Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame 2) Van Jefferson, WR, Florida 3) Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor 4) Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama 5) Ashtyn Davis, S, California Here's the draft order.... 48. Jets never have had any studs for long stretches. They either tapper off fast or have bad injury luck. Going back to 1990, Jets receivers who managed top 15 in yards: 2015 - Brandon Marshall - 1,304 - #4 2006 - Laveranues Coles - 1,098 - #12 2003 - Santana Moss - 1,105 - #12 2002 - Laveranues Coles - 1,264 - #10 1999 - Keyshawn Johnson - 1,170 - #11 1998 - Keyshawn Johnson - 1,131 - #10 1998 - Wayne Chrebet - 1,083 - #12
Yes indeed. Unequivocally, undisputedly, absolutely RIGHT. We are due a stud. Can you imagine what a scrappy WR can do for Sam behind a stout OL, with 5 targets to throw to, from both a single and two back formation. The middle of the field will be quite interesting this year. Make it happen Gase.
https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-ranking-situations-for-nfl-2020-rookie-wide-receivers 5. DENZEL MIMS, NEW YORK JETS For as often as the Jets' offense stalled in 2019, it might be surprising to learn that they still generated explosive pass plays (15-plus yards) when targeting receivers more frequently (19.8% of dropbacks) than the Kansas City Chiefs last year (19.7%). Sam Darnold is at his best when throwing downfield, but whether it’s a lack of weapons or the offense as a whole, he hasn’t been able to target those routes consistently. That should be where Mims wins, as he posted a 14.9 average depth of target last season at Baylor
Mims better not be just a slightly better version of Keyshawn That’s not going to help the Jets become a better team He fell in the draft for a reason Maybe all the GMs who passed on him are geniuses and Douglas is the fool
Ok ok Douglas playing 4d chess with our second round pick. Extra capital to dim the pain of a possible bust? 3rd round SS becomes a HOF while MIMS busts....idk just spewing nonsense like most articles and us included
Haha The best white safety ever! Who was that Jet who most black people considered white, while most white people considered black?
Hard to say, Julian Okwara might have been on the list, or possibly Jeremy Chinn. I wouldn’t be at all surprised If Jaylon Johnson was on there.
I know Giants fans like to pretend they ended our season but that night against the Broncos is when all of the life was sucked out of the season. Didn’t matter that we won the next three games
