Of course. They wouldn't. To be fair, they're also owners of much more profitable individual entities than each NBA owner is. The bird rules have also not stopped NBA players from congregating together in the larger markets, while leaving teams like Charlotte, Orlando, etc. to be bottom feeders for decades until they luck into a #1 pick with Shaq or Dwight Howard available.

I'm not sure what the right answer is. Maybe they need to work with the NCAA to try to develop quarterback prospects to be more ready for the NFL. Because at the present moment, as Brady, Rivers, Roethlisberger, Brees, etc. retire over the next year or two, you will see the league start to struggle with top end quarterback talent. While the price of quarterbacking will remain the same.

We might see a very strong run of Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl wins over the next 5-7 years. He's that much better than everyone else, with the best coach for his skillset in his corner.

“Snake” isn’t how I’d describe Gettleman...

Calling him a snake for this is giving him way too much credit.

maybe some of u folks realize this, maybe not....but there is a very good chance that if/when the jets are serious playoff material, adams likely will not be the major part of that team. yes, he may be an important piece of the puzzle but there will have to be other important pieces - another stud or 2 on the defense, a better QB (may or may not be darnold), and either an all world WR or RB. Currently yes, he is their best player but going forward that will have to change.

the jets will find themselves in a position of having to pay several folks - starting with the QB (hopefully).

Sorry guys, unless he signs a team friendly contract like brady was doing for a while, i am in the trade camp IF a good offer is there. Look i know about the draft and trading away knowns for unknowns and all that crap.

He is going to be all about the money so i don't believe any of his BS about him wanting to be a jet.

    we'll see.

For the record, I believe that any NFL player, especially marketable ones, should always be all about the money.

I see where your outlook is, looks like we're about 2 coaches and a GM away from your trajectory. I wonder how many of us will still be here

    20 years?

    Not a chance, we're talking 50+ years.

I remember football being called the top sport in the early 70's.

Baseball isnt close to being equal in the 90's. No way

Forget the NBA. Its never going to pass football for the simple reason that the regular season is basically meaningless while every game is life and death in the NFL

I think what we'll see is teams/coaches adapting their offenses to fit the skills and abilities of the QBs available. We're already seeing that. It's just the natural evolution of the game. The only way to alter it would be for the NFL to create a minor league system outside of the college game, like MLB, where they could invest the time and money into developing the type of players and styles of play they want. Frankly, I think it should happen and let's give up the pretense of "college amateur athletes". It won't happen though because the NFL gets player development for free, even if it doesn't always deliver the finished products they want. They'd rather that than give up profits.

There's unfortunately no good way to create a minor league system since the duration of the NFL football player isn't long enough to spend years developing. Most positions start to hit a wall at around age 28. Teams wouldn't want to invest in 25-26 years old that may only give them a couple years of service. And the owners certainly wouldn't want to pay them to develop.

It's a good idea but it's too hard to implement. MLB players can make it to the league at 30, after a decade in minor league systems and still be 5-6 years away from a skill decline.

And we're definitely see the game adapt. But the reason why it's slow and hasn't fully gotten to where college systems are is the skill and speed/strength combination of NFL linebackers. They stop a lot of the gimmicky bullshit while they're also not a liability to the A-gap running game.

    Per- Pete King

I get the sense Jamal Adams does want to leave the Jets, and his long-term future will be ugly and drawn-out, unless the Jets quickly really overpay him. It’s just another reason why first-year GM Joe Douglas deserved the six-year contract he got from the organization. He’s used to working in places where players are eager to play, Baltimore and Philadelphia. The Jets might become one of those places, but they’ve got to win some games first.

Thats an excuse people who want to trade him for those miracle picks that will turn the team around.

He repeatedly says he wants to stay, wants to win in NY. But lets change that narrative

If and whenever we win here in NY he’s going to blow up as a superstar. He knows - he isn’t dumb. All the marketing opportunities as a young, good looking dude. He’s made for the big Apple. We just need to win before he gets really agitated.
