Unless we get a Hershel Walker type trade offer I drive a truck full of money into his driveway and make him the highest paid safety in the history of the game.

I also get a pass rusher from somewhere since he has been bitching about wanting one for our defense.

The Chiefs just won the SB. They paid Tyran Mythieu a pretty big pot of money. When healthy I like what Mathieu can do more than Adams but he's making over 15 million per.

I think the Steelers and Ravens did ok by paying their safeties well in the past.

Whether Adams is anywhere near Polamalu or Reed impact is still unknown, I’d like that to play out further to find out.
There’s no need to move him right now, and I’d argue now is the best team leverage to negotiate a new deal.

I'm not sure what the point is of drafting high in hopes of getting a superstar if you're just gonna dump him for more picks.

Might just as well have traded down for more picks in the first place, no?

This is disingenuous. Most of those here who have been supportive of trading Adams have conditioned that support on two things:

    1. They would prefer to keep Adams unless...
    2. We were offered a "godfather deal" in return - this year's first and second, or maybe a first and a third and next year's first. IOW, "a deal you can't refuse".

So it's not "fans constantly complaining about the lack of homegrown talent but constantly want to trade the homegrown talent when it’s time for them to be paid".

It comes down to this cold calculation:

The Jets, as constructed are not a great team, are in fact a long way from great, even if they somehow made the playoffs this year. To get to great, Douglas is going to have to be a very good, if not great, GM. If he is that, then getting two or more additional top draft picks for Adams in a "godfather" type trade would allow him to quicken the day when the Jets can be contenders. BUT...if Douglas is not a good GM, and he would be unlikely to translate those picks into more value than Adams provides now, then the Jets are doomed to be mediocre, at best. and that's a complete waste of Adams, and Jamal would certainly make loud noises about wanting to be traded. But at that point his value would be less.

But let me repeat: I'm NOT advocating getting rid of Jamal Adams just because he wants to get paid.

Says the guy who either cant read or figure out who said what, lol
I never said he should be paid $25 mil per. Find it, copy and paste it. In fact I clearly said Jamal is a $15 mil per type player and that isnt a number that should negatively impact a team, shouldn't stop it from being able to put together a D and team.

This is wrong. Mathieu was paid about $6M last year. *This* season he cashed in, the one coming up. Let's see how they do after paying him like that.

I like their chances better than the Jets after paying Adams because of Mahomes obviously. But there's no question the big Mathieu deal will crimp their chances some.

Adams wants to be paid as the best safety in the game.

He is also the best safety in the game.

He's everything we wanted when we drafted him.

(Within reason) pay the man, and damn Dallas to Hades.

Agreed, he's the face of the franchise on defense. He signs every autograph at camp, I've been going for 11 years and never seen anything like it. He tackled the Patriots mascot at the pro bowl, pay the man, don't give up the only pro bowl player on the roster for a lottery ticket.

How is this situation different than the Revis situation? If anything we're in a worse position because we are not position to go for it a couple of years running to take full advantage of the player.

Seriously, paying Adams like he's the reason we're winning is a mistake when we're not actually winning.

Calvin Johnson was a truly great WR but paying him that way did absolutely nothing for the Lions for the longest time. It's the bad team trap. Pay a player or two like they're the reason you're winning when in fact you'd be better off building a roster that was capable of winning.

Suh in Detroit *and* Miami. Great player but the point of the game is not to pay great players it's to build winning teams.

I may be in a minority here, but with Revis I saw a player driven so much by money. I don't see that with Adams. Yes he wants paying, but he's called out the culture under Bowels, demanded the best from himself and others, he celebrates the success of others, plays hard each pay, hell, he even took down Pat Patriot!

Like I said I may be in a minority, hell, I may even be wrong, but right now I don't think I am.

Your other points about paying those players is also valid. There is a limit to what to pay, of course. Although perhaps my limit is higher than yours :).

We drafted the best in his position. What message does it send to our draft picks if we trade him? If you become the best in your position, you're out. If you're crap, you're out. Mediocre? You can stay! Btw I know that's not your point.

Bottom line is, we're unlikely to agree, but I enjoy the debate.

Which proves the point that you need more than one player to put together a winning team, not that you need to get rid of one of the best players you've drafted and then trade him as if its a guarantee that you will get multiple players, even good ones back in return. If its so easy then why haven't we drafted a player as good as Revis in all these years? How many on Adams level have we seen in the last 10 years? The last 15?

Its easy to say, trade one all pro player and get two back. Its just not proven that you can. Ever.
To me, build around the young stars you have. How has this thinking worked for the Knicks with KP?

QBs get way too much money, other players on team cheated on pay, some even get released strictly based on money.

NFL needs aniother salary cap rule: no player on any team can get more than 10% of the cap in any year.

that would spread the money around , stop the ridiculous $33 million dollar QB with rookie or under 4 year players at critical postions like OL, CB, WR, DE.

What happened when we failed to pay Revis?

He got a ring with the Patriots.

What happened when we failed to pay Keyshawn?

He got a ring with the Bucs.

    Just pay the man already!

Given the $200 mil or even more talked about for a talent like Mahomes I think the NFL needs to give teams a pass on the money applied to a FQB in regards to the cap. Its like youre penalizing teams with elite QB talent as opposed to those who cant find one.

it is more about not overpaying any qb and making sure teams spread the money around to other high performing players.
teams should have much better depth if they have more cap avilable for the other positions and players
    besides just one qb.

    Right...

So Revis and keyshawn were the reasons those teams got rings and the reasons the Jets did not.

    Please child.

Yet neither one was a constant thorn on the GMs ass with his bitching and twitter happy nonsense. Or wanted to be the highest paid defensive player.

Only if the team drafted and has retained the QB in question.

Otherwise you're just asking for QB salaries to go through the roof as the deep pockets owners pay whatever it takes to sign a star free agent QB.
