Yeah that's ridiculous. Plaxico is one of, if not my fav. non jet in the league...and he is nowhere near as consistent as Coles. Thats pure biasm
It's not that bad of a comment. To be fair Burress seems to make more big plays than Coles does. However, I would rather have Coles's toughness and ability to make plays and stay on his feet after the catch. I think Coles is a much better WR but Plaxico does make some huge plays and huge catches that seem impossible to make.
Russo is right....Coles isn't the gamebreaker that Burress is....Burress makes gamebreaking plays like drops, non-tackles, and dumb penalties.
they seem impossible for normal people. but when your his size with arms as long as his its like fighting with college players for the ball in the air
Burress gets more big play opportunities including deep and endzone jump balls where he can use his size than Coles, so that is not too bad of an assessment. However, I think Coles has better hands, is a better route runner and is better at running after the catch. LC is the better overall WR, but Burress makes more big plays. (Also, doesn't Burress have a fumbling problem?)
I hate to defend this guy because I really don't like him or the effort he gives out but he uses his size and arm length great in the endzone. He has made some catches in the endzone that are spectacular. Coles makes more underneath catches and doesn't go down as easy and makes maximum effort on every play.
I'm not going to say I would rather have Burress than Coles, but I may agree with Russo on the gamebreaking aspect. Plaxico has his share of baggage, but he is a gamebreaker.. there's no one on the Jets like him, where you can just heave up a prayer and actually be CONFIDENT in your guy just going up and getting it.
I'll take LC over Burress any day.....if we had a stronger arm QB Coles would be making big plays.....especially down field....
cant blame coles for lack of game breaking plays.. it isnt like he has a qb that can sling him the deep ball and let him use his speed and run under it.. in most cases coles always have to comeback for the ball.
He allows him to just be a top notch WR and the guy who throws it to coles is better than the guy who throws it to Burress.
