Obviously this is pure hearsay but it certainly all makes sense, especially the timing. Would be a huge fan of this move for obvious reasons. 25 years old, grades out to be an above average lineman that is a highly above average run blocker. Let’s hope PFT finally gets one right!
This move is right at top of my wish list. Hope it’s true, especially with Scherff looking like he may re-sign.
Would assume if we can sign Conklin, that takes Wirfs out of play at 11. Sets up for an interesting day. Either we’re praying one of the LTs is there or we’re going WR (hopefully) and bringing back Beachum.
He hasn’t played it and judging by all scouting reports, he projects as a guard or RT. I think he CAN. I just think I’d rather not take the chance unless they want to rebuild the right side. Let’s get real, we need so much help that even if you draft Wirfs with Conklin on board, it helps. I’m personally interested in bringing Glasgow on board and then letting the draft play out. He can play all interior positions. If you can sign him then you can take anyone that plays on the interior and it’s a victory.
I’d bring back Beachum as you can’t go into the draft with a hole at LT. Then chips fall where they may on draft day, take the best player.
Conklin and Glasgow combo was top of my list when this process began, so I’d be thrilled with this! Gives us the most flexibility heading into the draft while for sure upgrading the day 1 starting unit.
Wirfs has played LT before in stretches and he did a good job at it as well. He's got the athleticism to play on the outside against pass rushers. One of the concerns prior was his arm length, he's at 34 inches so he should be OK at tackle. I have reservations about Conklin, but this would be a really good signing and I wouldn't rule out an OT at 11. Glasgow gotta bring him in as well or the Spain guy from BUF.
I would love to see us go for a serious o-line upgrade this offseason. Looks like he isn't great as a pass-blocker, but I'd like to read more about him before getting too worked up about that. He would clearly be an upgrade and I want us to upgrade three or four spots on the line this offseason.
i’m not going to completely rule it out but if you can bring in two new starters in free agency, a top-tier receiver in the draft and then draft someone like Ruiz in the second then I’m all for that plan. It would just involve resigning Beachum which isn’t the worst thing in the world. To me that’s why Glasgow is an important move that we need to pursue as soon as the clock strikes midnight.
remember, there was a whole lot more decisiveness when it was reported that Anthony Barr was going to sign with the Jets…
Yeah, I preferred addressing the guard positions in FA (Thurney / Glasgow), bring back Beachum and address the tackle in RD1 and a WR in RD2. In JD we trust.
Even if this happens, I would still be ok with taking Thomas at 11 should he drop that far. The OL needs an anchor or two for the next 5-10 years like we had with Brick and Mangold.
This is a great start to free agency and what I think is going to be a complete retool of the offensive line aside from Alex Lewis. Oline should be the prevailing theme of this offseason. And a prime wr in the draft.
