Always gotta take PFF with a grain of salt but its definitely a good bench mark to start at for offensive lineman. In short there's maybe two centers worth it and a ton of guards. I'm in on paying a lot for Conklin. Right tackle is just as important. If he looks like he's going to be healthy for the long haul he can be our right tackle for the next 6-7 years.
$15 million per year is good. Raider rt makes 18. Conklin is a very good player. I wouldn't mind that deal at all. Instant upgrade. Problem is LT and what to do with Edoga. Maybe have him replace winter at RG. Then we can go for a center and LT in the draft. Or Glasgow who has played LG, RG and Center each for 13 games or more.
I would rather get 2 from the pool of Glasgow, Thurney, and Spain. Conklin is going to command far too much and IMO, I don't think he's elite. Get Becton / Thomas or Wirfs
I can see JD signing Conklin and still draft a LT in the first round. That would solve the tackle problems for the next few years.....Edoga may be better suited for guard. Reports say the Jets like him despite his uneven showing last year.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si.../jets-will-get-creative-trying-to-sign-thuney Jets are in on Thuney, Conklin and Wisnewski now. Everything in the off-season can be smoke screens and what not and we'd have to get awfully creative to get all three, but the idea is right. Trying to free up flexibility to take Jeudy or Lamb.
I don’t see how they can sign both Thuney and Conklin but here’s hoping JD has a plan....... Let’s suppose JD signs both. On the one hand that doesn’t eliminate JD drafting a LT at #11. But on the other hand it can also open a trade down to where JD can get a guy like Ruggs - another player he’s supposedly in on - and pick up an extra draft pick or two......
How would signing those 3 mean the Jets don't have to draft an OT at #11??? Thuney's an OG. Conklin is a RT. Wisnewski is a marginal starter/depth, but is an OG or C, not an LT. Who's going to play LT?
I highly doubt the Jets would be able to sign all 3 but if they did, I’d certainly resign Beachum and then draft one of the top WRs at 11. Improving the OL enough in FA to allow them to go WR at 11 is just about the dream offseason.
Even if we were to sign all of those OL's I'd still want to grab one of the tackles. In most drafts it gets pretty difficult to draft a stud LT outside of the top 5. I don't want to pick in the top 5 ever again so we shouldn't let this opportunity pass us by. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
So spend over 40 million on the oline? You know we have over 25 free agents? How do we fill the other spots? Udfas?
Doing that would negate the improved OL. We'd only be better off because Sam was more likely to stay upright and healthy. We'd have no usable depth, no edge rush, and unless we drafted 2-3 WRs who could help us immediately, no one for Sam to throw to other than Bell, Herndon/Ryan and Crowder.
https://www.facebook.com/115673336230/posts/10156751779816231/?vh=e&d=n That entire minutes spent and talking about how valuable it is to have receivers that can catch a 3 yard pass and take it to the house let you know that we are still going to be playing Gase’s losing brand of football. Unless of course Sam turns into a Hall of Famer and we end up with a receiver in this draft that becomes a perennial 1000 yard guy. Easy right?
Somewhat pickled but able to type shit. Jets sucked last year. Waiting on good FA moves and the draft. I wore a lot of my Jets shit today at the Belmar St. Patrick’s Day parade because it’s green. Saw a lot of other folks doing the same. Adrift here in the nether world of non football stuff. Only hope I have is that our new GM can wright the boat. Big rock to move... 19 months to the playoffs or I’m out a here!
This minus Thuney and plus a couple of the other quality tier 2 options. Thuney is going to cost a mint and like C.J. Mosley he won't be worth it even if he's everything he's advertised to be. Belichik has a pretty good track record of keeping his guards on their 2nd contract. Him not being in on Thuney means something.
I can see that with Thuney, but what about Damien Woody? Personally, I would be happy with some of these other tier 2 guys as well. I think the Jets can rebuild the line and not pay a fortune making someone the highest paid at the position.
