They need to find about 4 starters in this draft along with depth. We all need to realize they won’t hit on every pick but 4 starters minimum ( hopefully even 5 ) is what they need. This isn’t going to happen overnight but finding 4 starters in 2020 will go a long long way to fixing this franchise ...
I’m guessing one major FA on the OL - probably at Guard. OT in first round. A center at some point later. Probably a CB rather high and a WR maybe 2. I think EDGE may be addressed in FA.
Yeah, I expect at least one FA OL. I have no idea which C's Douglas is high on. Biadasz seemed to be the consensus top prospect for a while and now it looks like Ruiz has gained on him. I also see either a FA CB or a mid round pick being used on one. WR, has to be addressed in this strong draft class.
Saints in 2017 CB Marshon Lattimore (11th-overall pick) T Ryan Ramczyk (32nd-overall pick) S Marcus Williams (second-round pick) RB Alvin Kamara (third-round pick) Edge Trey Hendrickson (third-round pick) But yes, your question is extremely valid. It seems extremely unlikely. I think getting 3 starters is more realistic for 2020 and then by 2021, hopefully a few more of the 2020 class would become decent role players.
Just saw Wisniewski linked to us. When he signed with the Chiefs last year I thought we'd push for him. I'd be happy with him as a depth piece. If we don't sign Conlin, Thuney or Scherff I can see Wisnieski as one of our fall back plans.
I think 4 starters is a bit of a stretch, but honestly you're kind of right. We need a franchise turning draft badly. The better franchises have them. The Seahawks 2011 draft had 5 starters on their SB team, while they grabbed 4 starters in the 2012 draft. The Saints draft the poster mentioned above is another one. I'll settle for 2 starters and 2 contributors honestly. We need to start keeping players on the roster past their third year.
It definitely is imo. As much as I'd love to see him become a Jet, I think the Jets would be better served by signing two starting OL or a starting OL and a starting CB for that money.
4 starters is a lot to hope for or expect, but someone made the point that Douglas will have had longer to prepare for this draft than any other first-time GM, and has had the same length of time as the incumbent GMs around the league. If he is the personnel guru that he is supposed to be, it's not out of the question. We'd better hope that he gets at least 3 starters out of the draft (2 OL and 1 WR) and 3 contributors (CB, RB, WR, Edge and/or STs). He has 8 picks to work with as well as UDFAs. Make it happen, Joe!
Sure. The Jets did back in 2000 and I believe 2006 ? Brick, Mangold, and Washington for sure at least. The Saints too as someone else mentioned. Heck the Steelers got four pro bowlers out of the 1974 draft. I know that’s extremely way out there but I see no reason for the Jets not to get 4 starters with all of their holes.....
I’m guessing two WRs drafted at this point assuming Robby leaves. Maybe one brought in as a FA - not a cap busting one though. Yes Ruiz seems to be gaining traction with the Jets as far as rumors go. I think JD is gonna sign a FA CB ( not counting Poole ) and draft one. The Jets need at least two and that’s assuming Poole is also resigned. Austin will be in the mix for the #2 CB but realistically he is probably a better depth piece at this juncture.
I can see him going after Perriman if Robby walks. I'm curious as to what Joe does for the pass rush. Ideally, he retains Jenkins at a reasonable rate and acquires another edge rusher in FA or the draft.
Yes and I’m surprised I have not read or heard anything about the Jets and Jenkins one way or the other. I’d like to see him retained. Subtracting him from the equation would create a second hole at OLB I would think...
They need 4. I'd settle for 3. I'd be pissed with only 2. They have 7 picks. I'm hoping (not expecting) for 4 starters/2 contributors/1 camp fodder. I'd be okay with 3S/2-3C/1CF. Anything less and I'm questioning Douglas's ability.
Actually, the Jets have 8 picks. The 6th round pick they gave to the Colts for Hairston reverted back to them for some reason. The Jets have a 1st, 2nd, two 3rds, a 4th, a 5th, and two 6ths.
There’s another rumor floating around that the Jets are hot for Conklin. Possibly $15 million a year for a RT. But he is young and possibly hasn’t hit his ceiling yet...... Signing Conklin probably means no Thuney but there are a lot of good guard prospects in the mid round draft also.....
