This upcoming possession by the Titans is big. If they score, they can put the Ravens in a much bigger hole. But a quick stop gives the Ravens a chance to change the complexion of the game.
As I said earlier this week, as a pure passer, he's about as good as Darnold. Can make all the throws but can also miss them. His running ability is spectacular and opens up the passing game, which is why the Ravens seem unstoppable. But by controlling the middle of the field, the Titans have figured out a way to (at least temporarily) stop Jackson while still covering the receivers. Still a chance the second half is a different story and the Ravens storm all the way back.
I wouldn't go that far, there have been plenty of Darnold screwups that were worse than Jackson tonight. But I'd definitely rather have Mahomes than Jackson.
I don't dislike Darnold. I liked him the best before the draft, and I still think he has the potential to be a top 10 QB. But at the same time, he's below average* right now, and given the situation he's in here (I definitely don't like Gase), I'm not confident he'll reach his potential. *Below average = Dalton, Winston, Goff, etc. He's better than Sanchez or Geno.
I agree he has a lack of weapons. Bad coaching and a bad OL too. But then there are the bad footwork and suspect decision-making which are his fault. Put him on a stacked team, and he's perfectly capable of doing what Goff did and taking a team as far as the SB. But that doesn't mean he isn't below average.
Allen yes, Jackson no. Jackson looks bad tonight, but he usually protects the football and really has improved his accuracy. Not saying Jackson is better than Darnold as a passer, but Darnold isn't on a different level from him.
Jackson is a one read guy...if he didn't have elite running ability and a great rushing attack around him he would average 100 yards passing a game...let's see Darnold play on a team with a good oline and a team that rushes for 200 yards a game.
