Anyone mind filling me in on the following players performance: 1. Bless Austin, see some twitter noise about him 2. how did Edoga look at RT? From what I recall, he seems much more natural there than LT where he was a disaster. 3. Nathan Shepherd sighting?! 4. Quinnen getting doubled a lot?
I had it on in the background....Didnt really care who won...After the Dolphins game i no longer care about this season.
Austin looked good. If he can stay healthy he should really help the secondary. Edoga was better at RT, but that's not saying much. We'll see if he can build on this. Shepherd did really well. More than Phat Williams did for us. Q. Williams was getting doubled, but he did okay. As well as Phat Williams anyway.
Edoga just looks like a guard to me. He doesn't seem quick enough to recover after he kicks into his set. If a rusher starts up field and cuts back in he's slow to get back to the inside. Not athletic or versatile enough to play tackle at the present moment. That's not a knock though. I thought he was a guard in college anyways? Hopefully we figure out a way to coach him up (and his best position) and not just throw our hands up in the air, throw him on the bench for two years and cut him like we've been doing with mid round offense lineman for a decade. The ones we've actually drafted.
Shepard absolutely kicked ass (I thought). Bless Austin didn't exactly do anything incredible but I was actually pretty excited and he looks way more impressive than I expected. I had to go look up who Tom Compton was, I guess I never got the memo on him, but Winters has never been one of my favorites. I'm almost tempted to say I'd rather see the Jets roll with Compton for awhile and see if he can keep it up. He looked pretty stable after taking over.
D line played well however not sure if that’s because Barkley is hurt and the Giants O line was missing players. But I credit them. They were STOUT Dare I say they look like a deep unit of a lot of players. Leo was not missed at all. If my memory is correct, the 2 post Leo games we have 10 sacks 3 in the previous 7 with him. the D line depth and the Leo thing, might require its own dedicated thread.
Yes, two deep will be set for a long-time: Quinnen-Sheppherd Kyle Williams-Fatulski McLendon (run stuffer) Jenkins is a average OLB and could be a nice piece if we ever were able to get a Chase Young. Would a be really good front 7 then. Glad to hear.
You're right. I went back and read his draft profile yesterday. A lot of positives and a lot of negatives. His biggest positive is his athleticism. Hopefully we can refashion him into a good player at one of these spots. The rest of the year is basically an open tryout for these dudes.
1- I felt like Bless did well....he came on after Hairston got benched (dude has been a turnstile)...he looked good, played off mostly but almost had a pick (ball went thru his hands) he looks physical too 2- edoga was decent at RT, better there then LT. There were a few times that he gotten beat it seems but they were both on PA boots to the right side so not sure if it was designed to get Sam moving in that direction anyways. 3- Shepard was a beast! He was in the backfield a lot and got good pressure from the inside. He was basically the other pass rusher inside when the Jets went nickel and had a sack. Also had a few stops in the run game. Giants offensive line tho maybe as bad or worse then the Jets tho. 4- Quinnen played and he was the one that got doubled a bit by the guard and center on quite a few plays. He had a few disruptive plays and recovered the fumble at the end there to pad stats.
I'll say this: despite the game meaning very little, it was an entertaining game. Kudos to both teams.
It was. And I give Gase (and Shurmur for that matter) a lot of credit for getting both sides up and ready to play in this game. There's a little more skin in it than a 1-7 vs. A 2-6 being New York vs. New York but I actually expected the Jets to start laying down and they didn't.
By the way- Sam had several off foot/back foot throws that were important completions that led to the win Proves that it’s never just one thing Favre made HOF throwing it off front foot, back foot, no foot, two foot, club foot... lol
