Yes Craig he's definitely one of our better players However, he is not a Top 10 Safety in NFL ( but is #37 on list of current Top 100) Tough Question: How many games will J Adams win for us vs Sam Darnold? FTRMR would you rather see Darnold injured and out for the year but have Jamal making tackles? No one knows what Joe Douglas will do to get better players , OL etc but down to the nitty gritty theJets have to stop favoring the D ...doesn't get you anywhere. The Team is for Sh^t and has too many holes. Iam counting on JD having an excellent FA and Draft ..hopefully 1000xs better than MM..you say it's Draft vs sure thing in Jamal but his career is being wasted by Gase and we have to gamble/draft better players to improve Plz unload Tru Johnson and Marcus Maye...that's an easy one ahaha
Isn’t it pretty funny that Douglas’ 1st 2 trades ever are with the Patriots and the Giants, previously untouchable organizations
Holy moly!! That is some haul. Seattle didn't re-sign Richardson after trading away a second round pick for him. BUT as we've seen Teams do stupid things. How on earth do ya trade away a third and a fifth that could turn into a fourth for a player that has zero sacks this season and has made zero impact while making $14.2 million in 2019? The trade makes absolutely no sense for the Giants. And is a absolute heist for the Jets.
What does the media see in this guy? It's almost as if they're not allowed to speak a bad word about this bust. I'm reading the NY Daily News the backpage is Mr. Williams would you like the good news (in green) or the bad news (in blue) as if this scrub wasn't a major part of the problem here. Then I read the article and it's more of the hidden production stats garbage now they pull some sports info whatever company out of their behinds to talk up this bust. Good riddance. I'm glad he's gone and I don't have to read about his hidden/zero production garbage.
Jets are in position to land potential impact players out of top 75 players with their first 4 draft picks. That changes a lot of course depends on who these players are. Maybe Douglas will trade down for more picks which I would like. Have to pick at least 1 OL prefer 2 with their first 4 picks.
I want a player that plays a premium position while this team is at best 2-3 years away from being competitive.
this is true. the other thing worth note is so many of them were not sexy picks and that literally any other team could have had (especially given where they draft) they choose guys who will continue to develop, and they have the system in place to develop them sigh
I also don't think they've ever signed a free agent offensive lineman. Every single one has been developed by the franchise. And then traded away (Logan Mankins) or let go (Nate Solder) upon being too expensive and replaced without missing a beat.
Before we deem it a haul, let's see how Leonard plays for the Giants. More of the same, we win; Leonard (plays like his draft slot), we lose and on another note, does anyone trade players anymore? Seems like most/all trades are for picks I wouldn't mind trading Robbie or another play (sorry have to give to get) for a known commodity on the OL. I know we want to build a line through the draft but if we keep giving up 8 sacks a game we're going to need to draft a QB too because Sam is going to get busted up at this rate
Or UDFA centers turning into pro-bowlers. I live in Boston (deep behind enemy lines) and get constant ridicule for my Jets-masochism. But you have to respect certain things they do (even if they cheat) I think some of their success is actually quite simple in strategy (though not necessarily easy to execute) 1) they have clearly defined roles for players, and best player plays. Everyone knows that, everyone respects that. You're a 2d round WR but sucking ass, you don't play 2) they have a plan. Very rarely are they drafting to fill a hole. They expect it may be a year or 3 before a guy really contributes. They use FA to plug holes and for opportunistic upgrades. Rarely out of desperation 3) they are contrarian. They have a sense of how to win with cheaper players. When everyone is paying top $$ for a DE, they decide to implement offense with quick releases and running behind a good run blocking line (rest of league wasted thier money when it comes to the Pats' game) 4) no rogue play/free wheeling; you decide to do your own thing on the field, they trade you to Clevland 5) most important, they cheat (they just can't help themselves)
Pats are just proof of having a system in place and then drafting players that fit that system is the way to go. Most of the Pats draft picks don’t do anything other than disappoint when they leave.
It's such a catch 22 too. Do you give the coach that has looked like an absolute disaster, three years to implement his system and get "his" guys? Or do we react based on what we've seen? It's just so crucial that we don't fuck this up with our #3 overall quarterback. Because we did everything we could to screw Sanchez up and although he wasn't the talent Darnold is, he WAS progressing. And then we changed his entire offensive supporting cast to save millions we could spend on what was supposed to be the 1985 Bears brick wall of a defense.
Sanchez wasn't screwed, he was given every advantage and opportunity. He just never progressed when it was needed. Quite the contrary he fell apart before his game ever elevated. Darnold is a much better talent, with much more potential imo. To answer your first question, hell no you don't give a coach 3 years to get 'his' guys after what we've seen both here and in Miami. You move on ASAP before Darnold becomes a very costly waste of draft capital. Gase cannot be the coach here next season.
The Giants DC is a Bowles disciple, and Leonard did make a Pro Bowl under Bowles. I think at minimum they got themselves a solid piece to the DL. It will all come down to cost. If they can sign him without breaking the bank, it's a good move for them. If they cannot sign him, or have to way overpay, it's a bad move for them. On a side note, if there is one game this season I want to win, it's against the Giants. I'd love to bask in the media firestorm if we destroy their new darling Jones w/o Williams, while Darnold and Bell move the ball over their D. It would be the only bit of fun this season can offer.
From 2010 to 2011 we replaced Braylon Edwards with Plaxico, Jerricho Cotchery with Derrick Mason (who forced his way out midseason), Brad Smith with Jeremy Kerley/Patrick Turner, Tony Richardson with James Conner and gifted him Wayne Hunter at right tackle. Also add in Ladainian Tomlinson's regression and you have a perfect storm for a quarterback to struggle. He progressed a lot from year one to year two. And then from year two to year three he went back to turning the ball over a ton. He may have still ended up sucking. But boy we sure didn't do him any favors.
sounds like tons of reaching there going back as far as chung? lol and collins and hightower sucked when they left the pats and got cut form the browns after having an 0-16 season lol. lots of it is coaching and system over talent. Michel is a bust, why does everyone hype him up? he's a JAG RB. you know who got drafted right after michel? nick chubb, ronald jones, and kerryon johnson. all better then michel by quite a bit. especially chubb who is a top 6 or 7 RB in the NFL at worst. Pats always trade for value players like moss and gordon. they overpaid for sanu. they also traded for cooks, and wes welker. their top WRs have always been traded for not drafted. the only good WR they drafted is edelmen in the 7th round. Your perception is skewed by their sucess. look at the WRs they drafted 2018 berrios - already cut, currently on NYJ as a PR 2017 opted to trade for cooks instead of drafting. used him 1 season then traded him away 2016 malcolm mitchel - bust out of the NFL already devien lucian - 7th rounder but still bust 2014 jeremy gallon - 7th rounder but still bust 2013 aaron dobson - bust josh boyce - bust 2012 jeremy ebert - 7th rounder but bust 2010 taylor price - bust 2009 brandon tate - bust julian edelmen - stud So in the past 10 drafts the pats have drafted edelmen 10 years ago and outside of him 9 straight busts at WR. oh and on top of that, for a team that you claim stockpiles picks. in 2017 the pats only had 4 picks. 2 3rds a 4th, and a 6th. all 4 were busts. they drafted really well overall 2008-2013 but haven't drafted good in the past 6 years
You must mean that he's ranked as the 37th best player in the NFL out of the top 100 players. For one thing, I don't think there are 100 safeties in the NFL, and for another if anyone did rank Adams #37 out of the NFL safeties they are certifiably insane or have no understanding of football at all. I'd have to see that list and know who compiled it to give it any credence at all. If he's that bad, we aren't getting anything in return for him., so we might as well keep him. If he's that bad, he wouldn't have been succcessful in recruiting FAs to come to the Jets and wouldn't have made All Pro last season. You know that I agree that we must stop favoring the D and we must start focusing on the offense. That doesn't mean that we can win with a lousy D, however, or that we should tear down what quality we have on D to help the offense. Weakening one unit to strengthen another only works when that strong unit is super strong (and ours isn't.) As far as Gase goes, do you not think that the careers of any offensive players we got with the draft picks that we received in exchange for Adams would be wasted as well? That's the bottom line. Gase needs to go and go now. He is wasting the careers of any and all good players we have. You can't just hold onto Gase or decide to not try to improve the team while he's here. There have to be core players to build around, to give the team leadership and focus, and the fanbase hope. Sorry, but we will never agree on this.
I just conceded that they do not draft receivers well so they trade for them. You didn't need to make that post to prove a point I agreed with. That's one position. They draft everything else well regardless if you want to call it a system or not. Your point was they trade for all of their talent. They've made two major trades in terms of acquiring talent in the past decade. They build through the draft and routinely have 10 picks at a minimum. Go look at it.
