This is from todays Daily News so please do not shoot the messenger

Count Bills LT Jason Peters among those who believe Jets LB Jonathan Vilma isn't suited to the 3-4. After holding Vilma to one tackle, Peters told Jets Confidential: "I got up on him a couple of times. He doesn't like it when somebody gets up on him and blocks him. He's more of a sideline-to-sideline, fill-the-gap kind of guy. He's more of a 4-3 guy. The 3-4, I don't know. It's going to be hard for him to make plays in the 3-4."

Why would anybody care about what Jason Peters says? The guy himself wasn't even good enough to get drafted out of college.

Wow, what a newsflash. Peters is saying exactly what many people on this board have been posting about Vilma all season.

Cause unless your memory is faulty there are many members who disagreed with my assessment of JV prior to the start of the 06 season. Who knows maybe you were one of them?

champ, decent post. I dont know why anyone would attack you for posting this. It is interesting to see someone who played against him confirm what a lot of us have said

Right on, i believe Vilma would be able to adjust to the 3-4 better from the OLB position then he is from the MLB position.

Champ, I don't remember you ever saying he didn't fit in the 3-4, you just said he was overrated. I've defended jv but I also agree that he doesn't fit the 3-4 and he might be traded this offseason. He's one hard worker though, so he may stay here as he's a big time Mangini guy.

I wasn't. You want to be told you were right? Champ, you were right about Vilma and the 3-4. Happy now?

It's a lot easier to say a player won't be good, and then turn around if it turns out to be true and say "I told you so". Don't worry about patting Champ on the back, he has enough practice doing it to himself.

I know Mangini has said that Bruschi struggled his first year in the 3-4 as well, so I'm willing to trust his judgement for now.

    exactly.....

and for those of you who i'll now call Champ's army....that don't understand why people get annoyed at these posts....

basically Champ makes negative statements about everything, the teams stinks, the owner is no good, the coaches aren't good, the QB sucks, Vilma sucks etc....and then seeks pulls this type of crap whrere he scours newspapers, internet, radio when some negative stuff happens that may somewhat support what he said, at least in his mind (like Greeny form ESPN said..., and don't kill the messenger, but Newsday said)....so basically he thinks any journalists opinion is fact so long as it supports what he said

ask yourself....Have you ever seen champ make a positive prediction or observation about anything

He would get shredded as a 230-lb OLB...

While I see your point champ concerning the performance of JV, its tough debating you because you will never bend concerning his performance.

For instance, it took a one tackle game for you to post this thread. Meanwhile, he has lead the team in tackles almost since he has been here.

The debate should be is he a legitimate semi star in the NFL or just an above average defender. You cant reach that conclusion so Im not sure what the point is, again, to a thread like this.

You say dont shoot the messenger..but the quote you use above is the quote you have harped on now for 3 years. All the while, disregarding praise that he has received by hundreds of coaches and players alike.

I follow you that he may be overrated. You just see no value in him as a player. That, I will never understand.

I assure you I am not in Champ's army... That being said, he has had some glimmers of positiveness of late. I think he is buying into the new FO/CS and sees some light there. He certainly hasn't changed his stance on anything else though.

Hey,many of us have defended champ...not that he needs it. Not sure what this "champs army" means...lol.

I like the way champ has posted lately. I also can understand people thinking he looks down at other posters...but they should realize..he has had his butt ripped pretty bad too.

Guys..JV has played in the 3-4 for a total of 13 games in his ENTIRE career. I wanna see how good you guys would be if you had to switch jobs to basically the same one, but have to do it in an entire different way. It woudl be hard...give the guy some slack..he is a gamer and will only get better with time. I was disappointed in his performance against the Bills as well but once we get more size aroudn him, hell be fine. He might realize he needs to be bigger/stronger and bulk up in the offseason. There is NO point in trading a guy who is so incredibly talented and hard working. We have a leader here guys, lets all just relax.

oh i think he definitely could be trade bait. if i am the GM i put him on the block - knowing that i am not getting back a mid first rounder but may have to "settle" for a 2 and a 4/5.

maybe the chiefs need a MLB to go with johnson.....

IMO - no one is safe on the defense except rhodes and thomas, of course.

the limiting factor to any deal will of course be the contract scenarios.

just a follow up - i know that last post will hit a nerve with many of you faithful but one of the most important things in personnel is that you HAVE to build your team with parts that fit, sometimes taking a minor step back to go a major step forward.

Since we play a hybrid 3/4 or 4/3, why not use Vilma situationally until we decide exactly which style of D we want to play? I don't see the logic in sacrificing Vilma via trade when down the road, we just might go back to being a 4/3 scheme again on D.
