I've heard this on at least two different podcasts in the last day from two different reporters that are typically not as full of shit as our beat writers so I'm going with them.
So fire Macagnan with a hope and prayer of having replacement ready to go? My god Jets just can’t get out of their own way. Just when you think they’re ready to turn corner it boom right back to reality.
Herndon is a redeeming pick. Shell is an average RT as well. Maye continues to display that the injury bug he had in NCAA ball is not going away. Skill wise everyone knew he would be good coming out, but Mac brushed off his injury history too easily it seems.
There's the matter of the Rooney Rule to deal with, at least. Besides, I really don't think Chris made this decision because there was a particular person he wanted, he made it because he decided Macc was the wrong guy. But having made it, he now has an open field to go after whomever he wants.
Yes, I forgot about that, somebody did mention that yesterday as well, damn memory and damn stupid rule, especially if you have somebody lined up already, just who wants to be that Rooney rule guy still knowing you aren't getting the job and wasting your time. Or whoever will come here lol
Which is a great way of saying, for example, if everyone else before the draft thinks Christian Hackenberg stinks, there IS a reason for that, and don't look for things not there.
Followed in the same draft by back-to- back scrub wide receivers, and then ending that draft with back-to-back CBs. Zero OL and DL picked by Mac in that draft. WTF????????
He doesn't have an open field. He has a field restricted to GM candidates who don't mind being stuck with Gase at coach.
Well it was widely assumed that Douglas would be the next GM and now reports are coming out that the Eagles can block him and have in the past. You would think(hope) that if the idea was to hire Douglas as the next GM they would know if they can hire him.
From what I've heard the Eagles can't block Douglas as long as the Jets are willing to make Douglas a real GM and not a GM in name only. https://94wip.radio.com/blogs/eliot...ted-eagles-joe-douglas-replace-mike-maccagnan
i mean yeah 2nd round has been brutal in the mac era. no denying that but look what we had. smith who couldn't stay healthy, hack who was a flyer on a QB, we gave away 3 of them to get darnold, and then maye. so he had 6 in total here and 3 went to land darnold which is well worth it if he becomes a FQB which i believe he will, maye was a great pick, hack was a huge risk at a big need (another reason not to reach for need) which was a bad pick, and smith was just bad luck but again reaching for a need. I remember that draft well, i hated the smith pick. i wanted DGB so bad there who went 3 picks later and he turned out to be a bust anyway as well lol. but rounds 3-4 he's done good overall. 2015 2 picks petty (QB flyer out of need again) and mouldin (bust, but i liked the pick just couldn't stay healthy) 2016 Jenkins (above average OLB who just had a 7 sack season and started the past 2 years) and burris (bust) but also in this draft he got peake, edwards, and shall after that so in rounds 5-7 he got an above average punter, a special teams ace, and average RT that's pretty dam good to get 2 starters and a SP ace with 3 late picks. not to mention he also signed robby this year as an UDFA who is at worse a WR2 and some consider a WR1 2017 this was a shit draft, no sugar coating it. he nailed the 1st 2 picks, but everything else was trash except maguire in the 5th who is a solid backup RB 2018 too soon to judge overall but we landed herndon in the 4th who was a steal. NFL.com did their "redraft" and had him going in the 1st round to the saints. that's how good of a pick herndon was in the 4th. 3rd ronud pick is too soon to tell and then we had 3 6th rounders and i really like nickerson as our future NB but time will tell 2019 can't judge obviously, but without knowing the future, an objective look is great as of now. BPA in the 1st (mac hasn't missed on a 1st rounder) a 1st round talent stud OLB/EDGE in polite, a future starter at LT or RT late in the 3rd (ranked 64th by PFF) blocking help in the 4th who can also be a H-Back/FB/TE, a 5th round ILB to replace lee (ranked as a 2nd rounder by PFF) and a flyer on a 2nd ronud talent CB in the 6th with injury issues. if he stays healthy he can start as a CB2 for us. i mean overall more then half the drafted players in the NFL won't last past their rookie deals, especially those not taken in the 1st couple of rounds. that's the NFL not enough jobs and high competition. he's not the only one to draft busts
They may give him the GM title, but the reality feels a lot like GM in name only. This organization has been Gased!
