I can understand that, we were in agreement on Mahomes. Others not so much at the time. I felt he was boom or bust, and wanted to trade back if possible. It was during one of our conversations that I was called stupid for suggesting that we take him at 6.
OJ who? Lmao...go look at the video you posted..as I recall I said "ok I am convinced ..sign this Beast " I've always been in the "sign a QB group"
Oh my! I would think I was very supportive of drafting Mahomes at 6 pre draft. I remember loving OJ and thinking we had no shot at Jamal. I was also extremely against Leonard Fournette at 6. I wouldn’t trade Darnold and Jamal for any two players in the NFL at this point, so I’m pretty pleased with how it worked out.
The trade down and sign a QB in the later rounds group. Your words: Mahomes has turned out great so far. No issue with bitching that Mac should have drafted him. He absolutely should have. It's the lack of memory some have, claiming they wanted Mahomes at 6 which was not the case. Mac is paid, very well to evaluate talent, we are not. For us to want Mahomes in a trade down or round 2 is more than acceptable. For Mac to miss is not. Maybe hindsight on our part but if we take an honest look back at who we wanted in prior drafts, most of those players have not worked out. OJ Howard the TE was your choice. Not surprised you don't know who he is LMAO
Plus he likely won’t have two of his best weapons and DC’s now have a full year of tape on him. With that said I still expect him to be very good-great given his immense talent.
Missing Hunt and likely Hill will hurt, Hardman should help some but that's a big hole. I do think he will still Excel. Alot of what he does is nearly indefensible.
Again, that is irrelevant he is still employed and bitching about will not change that fact no matter your expectations or standards. As he is our current GM and I am a fan and all I can do is watch the game, by tickets or choose not to. I don't judge the off season on just draft picks (look at the Pats) but by the entire roster. Last year was an overall failure with the bright spot of an up and coming QB. Last season the powers that be judged the problem was Bowles. Ok, Bowles is gone lets see how this season looks. I liked this draft, I like the FA acquisitions, I like the new coaching staff- I give credit to Mac as he is the acting GM. If this thing fails miserably I am sure Mac will be fired but I prefer to me more of an optimist especially in May. It is usually lat e October, early November that I start becoming disgruntled. Until then I trust in Mac(For no other reason that I do not have a choice).
Last year was his 2nd year. If that was the slump year it makes it even worse. Let's see if Sam can win the NFL MVP this year before we go to crazy.
This is kind of an interesting component to all the conversation here. It feels like the assumption is that Darnold will make the leap. I sure as hell hope he does because otherwise we’re set back like a decade.
yeah but he didn't play his rookie year. The "sophomore slump" refers to year 2 when teams have a year of game film on you. I worry about the same thing with Darnold
Not only did he play, the Chiefs traded their starting QB away after having him on the roster and playing. In his in division games there was no drop-off between the first time they faced him and the second time they faced him. After tape.
We will just have to agree to disagree. This site is for fans to voice their opinions, thoughts and frustrations. We always have choices. If you want to choose to trust in Mac, that's your privilege. I definitely choose not to trust in him. IMO he hasn't earned back my trust. I trusted him initially, but he has pissed that trust away.
I will go back and search threads and include dates. I'll bet the posts that you cited were early before I had seen that much of Mahomes or perhaps were late in the process once I realized that Mac wasn't going to take another QB. I remember that my thoughts fluctuated on Mahomes, but I also remember how much I loved his potential and his arm, and it's funny that a number of other posters remember that I was one of the few who liked him as well. Also, I don't think I told you that YOU were stupid, but rather the idea was stupid. Big difference.
Regarding sophomore slumps. Fortunately for us based on current starting QB's its nonsense. Tom Brady-No drop off in his second year starting Aaron Rodgers-Better in his second year starting Russell Wilson-About the same high quality play Dak Prescott-Worse in his second year starting Matt Ryan-Worse in his second year starting Cam Newton-Better in his second year starting Trubisky-Miles better in his second year starting Goff-Miles better in his second year starting Wentz-Miles better in his second year starting Bortles-Miles better in his second year starting.
he played 1 game with the backups in week 17 his rookie season. Okay, there was no drop off in the 3 division games you cite.
It is not a myth. You chose only a handful of selected QBs. Of course its not something that holds true for everyone. Some people are great enough to adjust. Where is Geno Smith on your list? or J.P. Losman? or hell, where is Drew Brees (Brees had a big sophomore slump)? The sophomore challenges happen to every QB, the great ones get past it. Mahomes may end up being one of the greats, Idk, just saying he will face challenges next year that he hasn't yet same with Darnold, Allen and Mayfield as well. 2019 will be a challenging year for all of them
Geno Smith's QB rating went up by 10 points in his Sophomore year. JP Losman first year with 8 game starts he had a QBR of 64.9 In his second year with 16 game starts it went up to 84.9 You're making stuff up.
