I ain’t implying shit; I said exactly what you wrote in the quote. I said you said 2019 was supposed to be the playoff or contending year but the CS (assuming you mean Bowles) did a bad job. How is this possible if the 2019 season hasn’t been played yet AND Bowles is not the coach for said season?

I agree that the former CS may have impacted the trajectory but NOT the future. If this was the year we contend for the playoffs that shouldn’t change because poor coaching supposedly held us back the prior season. This is the NFL you don’t need a buffer season to go from worst to first or playoffs; it happens at least once virtually EVERY YEAR; fuck we’ve done it a few times with rookie coaches. You act like there is some rule that you must go 8-8 or 9-7 before you can contend the next season.

If we are not a contending team THIS YEAR, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH what Bowles and crew did last year; it’s because you don’t think THIS YEAR’s roster and/or CS is good enough.

Understand what I’m getting at now?

If I am thinking like everyone else is thinking, then apparently coaches have no correlation to a player improving on the field. It was Bowles fault last year, he really screwed up by firing Morton for Bates, and not being more aggressive on defense. I guess Gase and Williams won't help the team

Stats don't matter. Winning does. Darnold is looking up at Mahomes in this regard and you better pray he changes that because it's a long shot. Winning trumps all.

I bank on players improving, and at one point I banked on Bowles improving as well. That was my thought process back in 2017. If Bowles improved last year, like I thought he would, we should have taken a step up from 2017 and in 2018 with a new QB be a better team, and 2019 become that contending team. Build on what you accomplish year in and year out. Instead the Jets regressed. That threw off the trajectory and with that in mind, and he got fired.

Bring in Gase and Williams, its possible we springboard the initial "2018 trajectory" and go right into 2019 trajectory. I really like what Gase did with limited parts in Miami, and I like Gregg Williams on the defensive side of the ball. We have a better coaching staff right now as opposed to 2018, that is a fact. 9 wins is what I have the Jets at right now. That is a contending team.

The bold is true, but that was NEVER my intention at any point in this conversation, if we didn't win any games last year, why would I think it would have to do with anything in 2017? Using that logic.

I still believe if Bowles made the right decision last off-season (worked things out with Morton and continued to call plays on D), we would've been on the same trajectory but perhaps a much different team.

EDIT - I think I understand why you are saying the things you are saying, when I said Bowles set the team back, I was talking about last year.

Na. Experts had Jamal Adams ranked as best player in college football. Many had him top 1-2-3 at worst. All boards top 5.

Mahomes coming out and into the draft? Hah. He was not on any GM's list as a potential #1 overall pick. Or even top 3. I know because I remember and love the SEC and Jamal Adams was way more of a topic of discussion than "Mahomes" who landed in a dream scenario on an offense loaded with talent top to bottom.

Let's see how Jamal Adams feasts next year after additions of C.J/Q/Polite etc and then let's watch Mahomes fall flat on his face or at least come back down to earth without both Kareem Hunt & T. Hill scaring the living shit out of opposing DC's.

You all can have Mahomes. I'll take Sam Darnold especially with Le'Veon Bell now at his disposal.

You all can have Mahomes. I'll take Jamal Adams. Who's already the greatest Jets safety of All-Time and already known as a top 3-5 NFL Safety who plays just as much if not more LB and dominates both.

Darnold/Bell/Jamal wtf are people still crying about Mahomes for? Let's see how he LEADS AN NFL OFFENSE without Hill & Hunt before crowning him "more elite" than either of Darnold/Adams.

Mahomes landed in a dream scenario. Why didn’t Darnold? Because Mac, that’s why.

OTOH Gase gains tremendous credibility (not Mac) for Coaching us into the Playoffs ...if it happens

Gase is well aware what a deuch MM is and gut says he can sway the Johnsons to replace him in December

The ideal time is now but better late than never

First it was let’s see him take a NFL snap first, Preseason happens then it’s let’s see him do this in a regular season game. Then the comeback against Denver game in his rookie season happens, and it was let’s see him do this for more than just 1 game. He starts off last year blazing, and it was let’s see him keep this up for an entire season. He tears up the record books, and it’s let’s see how he performs in the playoffs. He performs well in the playoffs w/o Hunt BTW and now it’s let’s see how he does w/o Hill and Hunt. The ever moving goal post

I saw an A- rating on NFL.com and a consensus of B over seven nationally recognized news outlets.

lol, and how many drives has Adams stopped? Such a blind way of looking at things, but I am not surprised.

Pretending like any team would have taken Mahomes over Adams at 6 on draft night is one of the dumbest things people do on this website. That, and pretending Mahomes ending up anywhere other than in KC with Reid would have yielded the same results.

Now Darnold has a 2nd year TE out of the U Miami in Herndon who yes, led all rookie TE's in Receptions, Receiving Yards and TD receptions. Signed an All-Pro O-Lineman. Don't over look the return of Robby Anderson who's considered a top notch deep threat on the outside. Just added Free Agency's #1 slot receiver. Drafted Darnold's RT during the 3rd round who allowed 0 sacks and 0 QB hits to USC's QB last year. Etc. Etc and don't forget the NFL's prized Free Agent in Le'Veon Bell who's the greatest 3 down back since dating back to #28 Curtis my Favorite Martin. All now surrounding Sam Darnold. Who's to say he's done building? Lol

The question that has gone both unasked and unanswered here is if the collapse in 2018 was due to the personnel available or the way they were used. I lean towards the latter but most here predicted improvement over the two prior years. With the coaching staff largely the same it seems like the optimism must have been due to personnel improvements.

Oh the irony; this might be one of the dumbest posts in this thread on while saying as such about others. Even if you are one of those idiots that actually think that Adam was so much of a better prospect than Mahomes, it’s dumb. When teams need a QB, they pick QBs of equal or slightly lesser talented over positional players ALL THE TIME. Because the position it’s that important position especially more important than fucking safety. Fucking Mitch Trubiski went ahead of Adams. You think the Bears are lamenting over that? The Chiefs didn’t need a QB but traded up in the top 10 anyway because Reid & Dorsey aren’t fucking clowns. They recognize the talent and jumped to grab it once he made it to 10. Other than the Bears the Jets are the only team in the top 10 that NEEDED a QB and passed. I guess Big Mac thought he found his QBs of the future with Petty & Hackenberg lol

Sure looks like you're banking on the coaching staff being better this year. Whether the staff has improved at this stage of the game is a matter of opinion, not fact. I'm leaning towards seven wins, but I overestimated the last two years.

Apparently not enough drives since we were near the bottom of the defensive rankings despite Adams and his band of dancing 1st rounders.
