https://elitesportsny.com/2019/04/27/new-york-jets-news-mike-maccagnan-addresses-hot-seat-rumors/ also that link says rich cimini (a solid source for ESPN) also reported the hot seat rumor
It will NEVER justified because of the disparity in value between the 2 positions. All things being equal a great QB will always have a larger and longer lasting impact on a franchise than a great safety will. Let’s no forget the opportunity cost of passing on a QB one year just to trade up for one the next year. Amateur hour, excuse me, amateur half a decade.
the fact that he is on the hot seat is a given. results count! you are what your record says you are. after the first round, he rolled the dice on just about every pick. he may get lucky with udfa and that will redeem some picks who do not make the team. signing free agent vets with tons of money does not exactly prove that you should be the gm.
So you keep saying, maybe for Mac he was waiting for Darnald all along and then he will feel justified in the wait and the trade to get him. I know you are good with QB's and liked Mahomes but there is shit all guarantee he would have been doing anything like he did for the Chiefs with our OL and dogshit Bowles and Bates giving him orders. Plus it has gone, look forward not back, you are a better poster than that, not that I see you post much nowadays tbh, get posting again
If he was waiting for Darnold, he fucked that trade up like he fucked up passing on Mahomes the year before. Mac himself said he thought Darnold was going #1 until the a day or so before the draft. So Darnold was clearly not who they thought they would be getting when he made the trade months before the draft. It’s not about Mahomes doing the same thing in NY that he’s doing in KC. It’s about him being an elite QB prospect that our GM knowingly needing a QB passed on. I called it dumb AF at the time it happened and when Mahomes was holding a clip board while Adams was having a solid rookie campaign. The fact that he’s tearing up the NFL is irrelevant in my mind since I told ya’ll it was going to happen. I am looking forward. I am looking forward to his firing. We’re not going to ever get to where we need to be until that happens. Once we fired Bowles but kept Mac I couldn’t get too excited about the off season. Paying big money to non premium positions like RB & ILB while drafting yet another interior D-lineman doesn’t help bring that excitement back. I guess I’ll have to wait til we start playing. Now that my NBA season is over (Knicks fan), I’ll be back posting more. BTW the Patriots drafted Stidham in the 4th. The Patsies seem to share my taste in sleeper QBs, 1st Brissett & now Stidham. Same HS class as Darnold & Rosen and on par with them in terms of talent just needed better coaching and it looks like he’s going to get it. The advantage I thought we had at QB long term just took a big hit.
I am glad the Jets passed on Mahomes and got Adams. Darnold and Adams are going to be very special for this franchise going forward. Yeah, the trade-up for Darnold cost a lot, but if the Jets don't get Adams, its possible they don't get CJ Mosley and Bell on the roster. I don't fault Mac for passing on Mahomes. I do however, hate his offensive line approach as well as his BPA / Need philosophy in the draft. I think Mac's luck maybe running out, but at least he got us Darnold and Adams before his eventual departure should Darnold get destroyed this year due to not prioritizing the offensive line.
Given our cap space and dearth of impact skill position players, I was fine with signing Bell. I'll admit I was a bit skeptical at first because he missed a year and was called selfish by a few Steelers players, but I came around. My guess is if we don't at least compete for a playoff spot this year, we'll have a new GM come January.
Mac was never gonna take Mahomes bc he believes in eliminating risks early in the draft & though many of us saw the obvious potential, he still came from the air raid & had non existent footwork. Additionally he was a down the field gunslinger which Mr conservative Bowles was never gonna endorse. I hated the Adams pick at the time but hes a dominant game changer & culture changer..given that we got Darnold in the following draft..Im not going crazy over it. I agree about the lack of impact positions addressed..but we did get impact players. And every move points to building from the inside out (minus the disastrous OL situation) which is sound thinking when the team is still a year away. Building from the inside out is going to include some non impact positions. Youve been high on Stidham for a long time.im not gonna knock your opinion but cmon..he couldve come out in the same draft as Darnold/Rosen & he didnt. He went back to school in hopes of being the clear #1 QB in this class but didnt. Hes a 4th round QB & he should be treated as such.Maybe 2 years from now hes showing up Brady but until then a 4th round QB who failed at raising his stock heading into this season nor the patriots deserve the proclamation of somehow closing a long term disadvantage.
Ahh but thats exactly it.He doesnt know how to fill the spot bc the way he values OL lends to a very limited pool & after Johnson followed by Long hes gun shy. Its sad bc theoretically center is an easy spot to fill & often cheaply.Well hes gotten the cheap part right but the results have been very ugly.
