I'll answer this for 99% of the board including myself. Almost no one on here will give you a reasoned answer because most people on here never saw him play in college and merely read scouting reports. Also we clearly have not seen enough of him this year (pre-season and regular season). So, no one except the coaching staff really has any idea.
Believe me, I'm optimistic for the Jets' future when it doesn't come to the quarterback position. I'm 100% confident in Mangini. I've never felt this confident in a Jets' coach before. I'm elated that we've managed to be this good, especially since I didn't expect more than 5 or 6 wins. The fact is, if you're going to overachieve on those 5 or 6 wins and perform like a playoff team should, my expectations as the season ALSO go on get higher. You have no excuses for playing like you do against the Texans, the Packers, the Patriots, the Titans, and then pull crap like today and Cleveland. No excuses at all.
Oops, I replied to him before reading your response. You basically said the same thing as I said. My bad.
Anyone ever going to talk about how if Pennington has a bad performance, there is always some other excuse, somebody else to blame?
Chad, D'Brick, Vilma, Rhodes, Barrett...The list goes on and on, especially Mangini and Schottenheimer...Everybody, Chad gets more because his "decision making" and arm were putrid today. A total team loss, a lack of execution and fire clearly burned the Jets...Buffalo came out like Muhammad Ali
you stole my post. was it 'Brick's fault when Pennington overthrew Cotchery, which lead to a Bills TD? who's fault is it that we don't have deep routes in the playbook, especially when we need to come-back? Schottenheimer's? Who's fault is it that we can't get the ball downfield? cheerss
listen, i agree the blame gets passed around: the D was terrible; come coaching decisions were suspect; some passes were dropped. but how many times are we going to just dismiss a poor performance by Chad, when a good performance may have overcome the other poor aspects and won us the game? when will Chad put a game on his shoulders (against a good Defense, or in a game that matters) and win it for us? cheers
D'Brick's worst game, 1 bad game, a horrible one. 1 bad game by a rookie, this late in the season, sign me up for that. Chad, veteran, having games like Cleveland, Jacksonville Chicago, and today. 4 piss poor games, 2 squarely on his shoulder(Cleveland, Chicago) and you COULD argue today's game but this was a total team defeat like in Jacksonville.
I don't get it, lets see, Denver, Dallas, Washington all made QB changes and the first two are way better than the Jets. Mangini should show some balls and just put Clemens in there. All I know is same old same old with Chad. Dink, dunk, dink, dunk. I didn't see one pass thrown over 20 yards today. O, my bad, he did throw one in the 4th quarter but that got picked off.
Don't you guys think the fact that we have had this argument so many times this year says something about the validity of the argument itself? I'm not completely against Chad Pennington, but he has way to many off games like this. Why don't the people defending Chad Pennington maturely state why he's the long-term answer instead of patronizing people who want a change?
From reading all this nonsense and bluster, I'm glad I missed the game today. Sounds like it wasn't very pretty at all..
This all can't be on Chad. 57 yard TD. Jets up 10-7 with Chad leading them before the 77 yard TD. He contributed to the loss for sure, but you guys are put too much blame on Chad.
will there ever be a game when the rest of the team plays poorly, yet Chad wins the game for us? or is Chad a QB who can only win when the rest of the team plays at least average? cheers
thank you! the fact that we bring this up so much, and the concern that we don't know WHICH Chad will show up each week should say something. right? cheers
c'mon, man... i'm not saying Chad hasn't helped us win games. but when has he won us significant games when no one else on the team has stepped up? cheers
Were you watching the same game I was? two fumbles, two interceptions. Yeah, the defense stunk, but Chad stunk worse. Let me ask the Chad fans out there, if we are down 2 TDs going into the 4th quarter, do you think the Jets have any chance of pulling it out? Not a chance, and you know why, because a Chad drive takes 8 minutes.
I think Chad is the Herm of quarterbacking. When you look at the numbers you say" hey you know what, not too bad". But Chad, just like Herm, always leaves you knowing deep in your heart that he isnt the answer..They were saying during the chiefs game today that Herms philosophy is to protect the ball at all costs first, and then slowly sprout the offense out from there. It is very similar with Chad. Odinarily(today not included) Chad wont cost you the game because he typically makes decent decisons and doesnt turn the ball over in big spots. But Chad, just like Herm, cant deliver the big one.Hes limited. He gives you just enough good performances to keep you from really getting on him. When he loses, somehow theres always a couple other guys to blame. Just like when Herm lost he had cotrell and hackett to blame. But just like we and the Jet organization realized that they can only go so far with Herm, its time we realize we can only go so far with Chad.
