I'm not sure how comfortable i feel with the CB depth right now and roberts as the CB2. we are an injury away from fielding pool, roberts, and nickerson in the nickel against the pass happy NFL offenses OLB Justin Houston - he's 30 and far off from the player he was when he got 22 sacks in 2014, but he has gotten 9+ the past 2 years and would immediately be an upgrade at edge rusher for us in 2019 and shouldn't cost much at all. would be best used as a situational rusher to keep him fresh more then an everydown type of player DE - ziggy ansah - not a great fit for the 3-4 , but is a proven edge rusher when healthy. he's pushing 30 though and health has been a big issue for him, would be nothing more then a situational pass rusher for the jets but if the price is right he could line up as a 4-3 DE when we are in the nickel and dime on passing downs. OLB - Shane Ray - only 26 and denver let him walk since they have 2 much better edge rushing LBers (von miller and chubb) he's only been average so far but his age and draft status could be a welcome addition to a young jets team. still has potential and did have 8 sacks in 2016 so may be worth the flyer FS - trey boston - only 26 and coming off a year year deal with the cards. not really starter material but with the lack of depth we have at FS and Maye coming off an injury, could be a good depth signing
Probably want to add Bell. Our roster is going to be so good, we won't be able to tell if Gase is a good coach or not..... (If you can't find the dark side of good news, you're not a real Jets fan.)
Jets still need pieces, but I think they're being underrated at this point. Of course Gase is a big question mark and Darnold's development needs to keep track, but everyone's blowing their load over the Browns whereas the Jets are still not even considered anything special.
I would submit that with Bell on board, bringing on a legit FB might be worthwhile. Particularly if the O-line can't be improved as much as we'd hope. Mike Burton is probably best available, but a veteran like Anthony Sherman might be a good fit for the team.
I think our starting lineup will look more like- DE (Jordan Jenkins)/NT (Steve McLendon)/DT (Leonard Williams)/DE (——) SLB (Avery Williamson)/MLB (CJ Mosley)/WLB (Derron Lee) CB (Trumaine Johnson)/SS (Jamal Adams)/FS (Marcus Maye)/CB (——) Henry Anderson will be a key rotational lineman likely playing primarily in place of McLendon when they want someone quicker on the inside for passing downs. Obviously I don’t know this for certain but Gregg Williams has run a 4-3 base everywhere he has been, Saints, Rams, Titans, Rams again, Browns... I know everyone loves to say you only run base 40% of the time but it does mean something that the core of your defensive scheme is 4-3 vs 3-4. Every team has role players who have one specialty, situational pass rushers, run pluggers, etc. The fact that it is likely we will run a 4-3 base means we need at least 3 starting quality true off-ball linebackers so I don’t really get why everyone thinks Lee is on his way out. I really don’t believe Barr was brought in (almost) to play LB as his primary responsibility. I think they really liked his versatility, but I do believe they had him in mind to play weakside DE with the ability to drop into coverage.
they already annonuced the jets will stick with a 3-4 defense. jenkins isn't a 4-3 DE really, and anderson doens't fit in a 4-3 which is why the colts traded him to us. anderson and williams are our starting Des for sure and we just resigned Mclendon to play NT for another year as well so our starting D-line hasn't changed since last year and neither is our base defense.

Patriots release defensive end Adrian Clayborn could be a good pickup as a depth guy at DE and relatively cheap
Why are you thinking the Jets need a FB? I don't think there was one on the Miami roster the whole time Gase was down there.
