Per schefty, just released by Fins Edit- it popped on my ESPN update that he was likely signing with the Jets but no official word, change the title !
I wonder if that means the end of Winters. Or can he play center? I know it has been rumored for weeks he would be heading to the jets once released. But that was before we got Ose.
Schefter reported he was cut and Cimini says Gase loves him, that's been all I've seen so far. Gonna be 33, torn rotator cuff last year, hasn't played RG in 7 years. Winters has 0 dead money though so it might be worth looking at.
If he's fully recovered from the torn R.C. injury that cost him all but the first game last year then they should try to sign him. Any help for the OL is a good thing.
Without question he's worth a risk. He's a little older at 32 and coming off an early season torn rotator cuff last year but when healthy he's an (multiple) All-Pro and Pro Bowler. Yes... I make a pitch if I'm GM.
If healthy this is awesome. He's a multiple x All Pro and Pro Bowler. Hopefully it's true because Le'Veon needs some hogs up front and Sitton is top tier if recovered from injury.
I wouldnt be cutting anyone yet (and I'm no fan of Winters) until we know he can really play.... and considering the absolute disaster the O-line has been as soon as one guy gets injured.....
He will likely rejoin Gase but this is not accurate reporting at the moment. I can't find this ANYWHERE
Releasing Winters give the Jets about $7M savings however let’s be sure we have a legitimate and healthy OL before we release the guy.
And just for the record, I recovered from a torn rotator cuff and labrum. The recovery is a long and tedious one, but I am 100% now. It is definitely an injury that may have zero impact in the future. Obviously everyone is different
Agree...make sure Sitton is 100% healthy before cutting Winters. As for the "savings", how much will Sitton cost them? I assume more than $7 million, which is fine if he's an upgrade, but the point is that "savings" will be spent right away.
NC jets wanted this guy......at this point he is probably not a starter but solid depth and probably not too pricey.
He was coming off a 2 year $18M, so $9M/yr estimated. He s 32 and coming off a nasty injury so I don’t think it will be anymore than $7M but what do I know
IF he's 100% healthy, and IF the Jets sign him, along with Osemele, this greatly improves the OL and lessens my deep concern about it heading into the draft where there isn't a lot of stud OL available, and he first pick will probably be used for Allen/Bosa anyway.
As a starting RG I don’t know how I’d feel, frankly I don’t love the idea of replacing all 3 interior linemen, especially if you don’t know what you’ll have at the C position. IMO blow up one side of the line or the other, or replace both tackles and allow the interior to remain. If you do a full interior reboot, not a single player has any chemistry with each other. As depth/competition, cool.
You don't want to ask me about RC injuries as I have had 3 of these surgeries and although I bounced back from the first 2 = I was NEVER the same after them and my last RC surgery which was recent was and has been a nightmare----> Cut Winters or NO ONE ELSE until this guy can pass a physical
