Giants are at an impasse with 25 yr old, 3 time probolwer Landin Collins. They may let him walk if he won't sign his franchise tag. He would make our team better, and it wouldn't cost much if any draft capital. Giants also looking to move up to land a QB. Should Macc demand Collins in any draft trade? https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/...don-collins-franchise-tag-20190304-story.html INDIANAPOLIS -- There is a “significant market” for Landon Collins if he hits free agency on March 13, according to league sources. And there are many who believe that the Giants indeed will let him walk out the door and not franchise tag him before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline. One NFL source did say he understands why the Giants would not franchise Collins because he feels the $11.15 million 2019 salary accompanying the non-exclusive franchise tag is steep. However, there are plenty of teams who have a higher opinion of Collins, 25, a three-time Pro Bowler and 2016 first-team All-Pro. And there will be a line of suitors waiting for the 2016 defensive player of the year finalist if he hits the open market. The Giants could tag Collins despite all the recent signs to the contrary, but it looks more and more as if they won’t. Collins would draw significant attention from rival teams. (Bill Kostroun / AP) Collins is threatening to hold out if the Giants tag him. He does not intend to play on the tag, according to a source. He would want a long-term extension to stay in New York. The Giants, though, had not engaged Collins’ agent in negotiations as of this past Wednesday. And GM Dave Gettleman said at the NFL Combine that he doesn’t want the distraction of a holdout when he uses the tag. The Giants’ defense lacks playmakers at several key positions and would suffer additionally from Collins’ loss. So even if they believe $11.5 million in 2019 is a lot of money for Collins, it would make them a better team in the short term to keep him. One league exec said Friday that while Collins’ pass defense may take criticism, he is one of the best tacklers in the league and a dynamic playmaker. And that makes him valuable and worth the money to a number of teams waiting for him to hit free agency, even if there are clubs like the Giants who are not willing to pay him what he feels he is worth.
Unless he can play corner then no. We hav Adams and Maye, we are set at safety. We have a million other needs. Give me the picks if we trade with the Giants.
useless topic, can this be closed? - Collins plays Adams position - Collins can't cover - We don't need a linebacker that can't rush the passer
Yeah, almost 0% chance this happens. If he played FS, I think it would be much more plausible. Maye hasn't stayed healthy enough to warrant holding a spot for him.
No. And by the way it was assanine when Adams was drafted & folks thought Collns was a reasonable comp. Collins is a solid box safety..nothing more
Maye was injured the majority of one season but has played well enough in his one full season and part of the other that he certainly warrants holding a spot for. Maye is part of the core going forward and safety is one position we are set at.
I love Maye, but he was hurt in college, and most of last year. It is definitely a concern moving forward.
I'm not that concerned. He broke his arm the last few games his senior year but played pretty much every other game and he started all 16 games his rookie season. Last year he was dinged up a few times but I can't call him injury prone. I just don't think we need Collins. I think Adams and Maye hold down the safety position for the next decade.
The Jets already have Jamal Adams at that position. It would be completely pointless to bring in another safety. If they are trading with the Giants it should be for lots of picks.
Middleton was really coming along before he got injured as well. Safety is one of the few positions where we don't need to do much.
Collins plays the same position as Adams so I'd rather have picks. But probs for the thread title. Assuming you intentionally came up with the pun and didn't just misspell his name.
Wasn’t Collins placed on iR? I think they do need a lot of holes to fill in Collins would not be a priority too impact FA signee we need.
It's mindboggling that the Giants would let him hit the open market. It looks like a continuation of the midseason fire sale they had in 2018. They really could trade away OBJ after this. Mindboggling.
The Giants are quickly becoming the worst run franchise in the NFL The Eli/QB situation has been piss poor for years now The oline situation is a circus The defense is non existent and they just let go of their best player for nothing when they could have easily scooped atleast a 3rd rounder a few months ago And they blame it all on a HOF talented WR who looks to be on the move Disaster
Yeah. After this if they trade away OBJ it'll look like they're in a full blown rebuild but they still have Eli at QB. It doesn't make any sense. Now that I think about it could they end up trading away OBJ to Oakland tor Carr and a pick or two?
Why would we even think about trading for him, and then have to sign him, when he’s going to be a free agent and we could just sign him?
